Chapter 489: Standoff

The defensive magic circle of Winter Fortress was forced to open.

Bang!

Karoso’s power slammed against the shield, and it seemed to let out a wailing sound.

The Kappa was originally looking bewildered, but when it sensed Karoso’s power, it couldn’t help but let out a scream.

"Aah!"

Countless arms over two meters long grew on Kappa, attacking the Winter Fortress.

Bang, bang, bang…

The tentacles hit the shield of the Winter Fortress, and many tentacles were frozen solid.

"All wizards, aim at that monster!"

The commander shouted.

Suddenly, countless brilliant spells struck Kappa, which felt like just a tickle to it.

Boom, boom…

The magic cannonballs hit it, causing Kappa to step back.

"Roar!"

This seemed to anger Kappa, and his huge fists pounded madly against the magic circle in front of him.

From the crack, not only Kappa emerged, but countless red seawater rushed toward the shield.

"I don’t want to die, I don’t want to die…"

"I haven’t lived enough yet!"

"You will not die a good death!"

Countless screams came from the sea of blood, and the sound made everyone in the Winter Fortress feel nauseous.

When the sea of blood touched the shield, it made a sizzling sound, and the air was filled with the smell of roasted meat.

The leader of the revolutionary army, Ryleyev, stared in shock at this scene.

They did not come here out of overconfidence, nor did they truly believe that such a small group could shake the mighty Presea regime.

They wanted to be the spark of revolution, to be a lighthouse for all those in the world who have ideals and long for freedom and dignity.

They are great; they want to awaken the blood of the Presea people with their own blood, instead of remaining slaves forever.

They believe their deaths will awaken more people; they believe they can be the blazing sparks that set the world on fire.

And so, they set out on their journey to battle Winter Fortress without hesitation, beginning their journey to death.

But what is happening right now?

This enormous monster is attacking Winter Fortress?

Ryleyev knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Perhaps there is truly hope to capture Easley and conquer Winter Fortress.

"Everyone!" Ryleyev shouted into a loudspeaker, "The rule of the Presea royal family has been hated by the gods; they are a regime despised by the divine!"

"In the name of the gods, for freedom, we will fight against Presea!"

Buzz!

At that moment, two noble young men broke through to the eighth tier.

They were young dreamers, brave enough to risk their lives for their country.

In their hearts, their ideals were more important than anything!

As the monster descended from the sky and attacked Winter Fortress, it felt as if the gods approved of everything they had done; filled with excitement, they broke through…

Teresa found it hard to understand what was happening around her.

"Everyone, stop right now!"

Teresa shouted, and the sword in her hand flashed with light and struck at the Kappa.

Pfft…

The blade of the sword struck Kappa, but Kappa continued to attack Winter Fortress as if nothing had happened.

As countless magic spells flew towards the rebel army, Teresa swung her great sword and stepped into the center of the battle. A Blade Storm swirled up, blocking the Magic Cannons and other attacks aimed at the rebels.

For a moment, both sides were unsure which side Teresa was on.

Realizing she could not stop the fighting, Teresa crossed through the shield and approached Easley.

This shield could protect against enemies and monsters, but it would not stop important members of the royal family.

"Teresa, what are you doing? Do you want to rebel?"

Easley was startled.

With both high-ranked fighters not present and rushing back, Teresa could do anything to him, and he couldn’t guarantee he could escape.

Although there are other eighth-tier nobles in Winter Fortress, Easley has just taken the throne. If he can’t handle this situation with his own abilities, how can anyone respect him?

Bang!

At that moment, a tall figure landed beside Easley, watching Teresa warily. It was Herman, the warrior who had always followed Teresa.

Clearly, he was now on Easley’s side.

Seeing an eighth-tier warrior next to him, Easley also breathed a sigh of relief.

"Rebellion? I’m not interested in your twisted troubles." Teresa stepped closer to Easley, "I want to know, what is really going on with those two tax policies?"

"Tax policies? Do you know how serious the national budget deficit has become…" Seeing that Teresa was open to discussion, Easley took a deep breath. At this moment, Teresa could be a strong ally.

"When my father was alive, there was no deficit," Teresa said in a deep voice.

"Those nobles do not respect me, so I can only temporarily buy them off," Easley replied, "If I want those generals to help, I have to increase their rewards. But where will that money come from?"

"So, you raised these two taxes for this reason?" Teresa said angrily, "Do you know how hard life is for the people of Presea right now? The merchants in the city are struggling to survive, ordinary workers can’t make a living anymore, there are homeless people everywhere, and countless graves are filled with the dead!"

"This country is held up by the nobles and the elite. If they do not obey, the country will truly be finished! What are the common people worth? Once the country’s finances improve, they will have more children!" Easley explained, "At that time, as long as we give them some benefits, like extra child support, they will gladly have many children! It will only be the current generation that suffers."

"They have no education; they don’t understand politics or the bigger picture. They will do whatever they’re told!"

"Teresa, wake up! They are just tools for labor; if they break, they can be fixed. If they can’t be fixed, they can be thrown away!"

"Use your mind and think like someone in power!"

Teresa looked at Easley in disbelief, "You… think like this?"

"What else? Don’t be so naive. In Presea, power is everything!" Easley clenched his fists, showing this to Teresa.

"Easley, you are the one who is too naive!" Teresa tightened her grip on her sword, "If you treat the nobles this way, will your next leader treat them the same?"

"Endlessly raising the generals’ rewards will only make their appetites grow larger!"

"In the end, will Presea still be Presea?"

"Teresa, I will take care of these things, but not right now." Easley took a deep breath and explained carefully, "What we need now is stability. If we can’t stay steady, we will be the easy targets in the eyes of the powerful nations!"

"In any case, those two policies must be taken back!" Teresa stepped forward, "I only know that those who believe in Presea and take pride in being from Presea are suffering!"

"Presea was built by people. If the people are gone, how can you talk to me about power?"
