Chapter 342: The Problem of Pest Control

A year quickly passed.

The children were all four years old, and they had awakened the Three Major Techniques, beginning to practically apply various skills.

Yun Ye, along with Tian Jialun and the others, formed a club named the "Three-Day Society," and started various projects.

After the incident with Wu Cheng, Yun Ye had a clearer understanding of the club’s significance; it was a mechanism for cultivating scholars and was indeed unrelated to combat.

Most people in the Cultivator School needed to devote themselves to research and could not become cultivators, so creativity was extremely important, and the club was aimed at fostering this.

That year, Yun Ye’s progress in Spiritual Law cultivation was slow. Even with his high talent, he could do nothing without spirit energy.

As a result, Yun Ye shifted his overall cultivation focus to Spirit Law, which yielded considerable gains over the year.

Training in Spirit Law not only enhanced his Spiritual Law cultivation but also included the Nine Lives Spirit Law, an advanced technique that required a long time to study.

The deeper the laws, the higher the accuracy. Not training meant one would remain at a half-baked level, which was not in line with Yun Ye’s style; as a reborn individual, he aimed for perfection.

“Is just the Three Lives really this complicated? With my current talent, it took me two to three years…”

Yun Ye could clearly feel that the further he progressed, the harder it became.

The Nine Lives Spirit Law was divided into nine stages, from one life to nine lives.

The more lives you could determine, the greater the difficulty, and each stage had corresponding proficiency levels; barely managing to use them was meaningless.

One life involves deducing a person’s trajectory, while nine lives involve predicting the path of an entire nation or even the world.

The amount of calculations increased, and it wasn’t a simple tenfold increase.

If it weren’t for Yun Ye’s astonishing talent in this life, allowing him to instinctively memorize the formulas, he would need at least twenty years to learn the Three Lives.

No wonder the Tomorrow Society put in considerable effort to optimize it; otherwise, ordinary beings could never learn it, and even the one-life threshold was discouragingly high.

Only geniuses like Yun Ye had any hope of becoming self-taught within their lifetimes.

Activity room.

Mosquitoes buzzed around.

“Ahhh! I can’t stand these creatures; they drive me crazy!”

Yong Fa was frantically swatting at them, but every time he managed to kill some, the next day they returned, making his efforts feel futile.

“Just use Spirit Law and Physical Law to block them. Look, we have no worries!”

Yang Yu looked up from her book.

“They’re just ordinary insects; it shouldn’t be that serious, right?”

Tian Jialun waved his hand, and all the mosquitoes were gathered together by the power of the Five Elements, compressed into a black dot.

“I’m not like you guys! I can’t naturally cultivate Spirit Law or Physical Law; even my use of Metal Spiritual Law is unstable. These insects are truly annoying!”

Yong Fa was exasperated. While he could use Metal Spiritual Law to keep mosquitoes away, it would inevitably injure others, and he couldn’t rely entirely on his mood.

When it came to eliminating small creatures, Spiritual Law could not overpower Spirit Law’s direct ability to squash mosquitoes from afar. It also couldn’t achieve the intimidation effect of physical energy that could scare them away.

It was irritating; this was the most frustrating thing he dealt with every day.

“Bang.”

The door swung open as Yun Ye and Wu Xianzhang walked in. From a distance, they heard Yong Fa’s complaints. Yun Ye suggested, “Since that’s the case, why not try to overcome your flaws? You can use Spirit Law, can’t you?”

“That’s easy for you to say. Are you going to do my homework every day?” Yong Fa quickly rejected the idea. It was already difficult enough for him to practice Spiritual Law.

“No pain, no gain. If you don’t want to delay your Spiritual Law training, you could also refine your Metal Spiritual Law,” Yun Ye said.

“I’ve been refining it already,” Yong Fa replied, slumped over in disappointment, unwilling to speak further.

Clearly, his efforts were fruitless.

The influence of those Spiritual Eyes was too significant. Aside from that, he struggled to learn anything else, or it was just too difficult; the input didn’t match the output.

“Mosquitoes, huh? The society has a project exploring how to efficiently eliminate them. These pests are a big problem for Tomorrow City, and they can’t be eradicated. We could give this project a try,” Tang Si said as she walked out from behind Yun Ye and Wu Xianzhang, pulling out a chair to sit down. She held a book and joined Yang Yu.

“Seriously? Some bugs can be a nuisance?” The others expressed their surprise.

“Of course! Some bugs are spirit insects and highly venomous. Every year, there are cases of people getting hospitalized from spirit insect bites, and even this year, someone died because of it. That’s why the project was put forth. Everyone can contribute, and who knows, our research project might include this when we graduate!”

“You guys can’t be completely unaware, right?” Tang Si questioned.

The group sweat dropped; they were all Spiritual Law masters. They could crush a few small spirit insects easily, so how could they possibly notice such things?

“Bang!”

Everyone was startled. Yun Ye had sat down at some point and slammed his fist on the table, saying seriously, “That really is the case! I also feel that mosquitoes are a significant hazard. Even without being bitten, just seeing them is annoying. This project has great research value!”

“While it is indeed a useful topic, Wei Yang… you don’t need to be so dramatic! No need to make such a show of it,” Yang Yu commented as she observed the whole scene.

It was too much; couldn’t he just speak up normally? Why did he insist on sitting at the Chief’s seat and pounding the table to show how important he thought this was?

“Yang Yu, you don’t understand. I’m eager to contribute to everyone. First, I need to take this seriously!” Yun Ye replied earnestly.

He only remembered it in the summer; he had been greatly bothered by mosquitoes before, always thinking of ways to completely eliminate them.

Even when he first awakened the Dao Artifact, he had fleeting thoughts of writing a rule where “mosquitoes enter the room and die.”

Though it was just a passing thought, it showed just how much he was bothered by these pests.

During his time as an ordinary being, it left a deep impression.

So when this project came up, he became instantly interested, even more enthusiastic than Yong Fa.

“Let’s vote!”

Yun Ye raised his hand.

“Do it quickly!”

Yong Fa was the second to raise his hand.

“If the adults can’t complete this project, how can we? Si Si, do you know anything about this?” Tian Jialun felt a headache coming on.

“I feel it’s okay.”

“It’s just like Wei Yang often says, how would you know without trying? Even if we can’t do it, it’s just one attempt, and the teachers don’t expect us to finish it anyway.”

Tang Si said calmly as she raised her hand.

Everyone turned to the last two people.

Yang Yu and Wu Xianzhang.

“I want to read. I don’t have much time lately,” Yang Yu shook her head.

Wu Xianzhang ruffled his messy hair, “I don’t mind, but how do we start? With insecticide?”

“4 to 2, passed! Tian Jialun, your talisman skills will come in handy. How lucky!”

Yong Fa suddenly appeared behind Tian Jialun, laughing as he wrapped an arm around him.

“Um, alright, it seems I have to deal with mosquitoes for a while. So, are we starting with poison?”

Tian Jialun pried Yong Fa’s arm away, replying helplessly.

“Speaking of poison, Wood Element Spiritual Law is quite good at that. Even the weakest Wood Element Spiritual Law can easily poison normal mosquitoes. This is indeed a feasible method.”

Tang Si raised her hand, and a little green light blossomed into flowers.

“If it’s Extreme Wood Law or Unique Wood Law, the effect should be impressive.”

Yun Ye pondered. He knew that Extreme Spiritual Law of all five elements could easily enhance the effect of poisoning mosquitoes with Wood Element Law.

If it were Unique Wood Law, it might even avoid harming any life forms other than the selected mosquitoes.

Using Spiritual Law to deal with pests certainly proved more effective than any technology; nowadays, many farmers eliminated pests and their eggs using Wood Element Spiritual Law.

“The range is key. The spirit energy density in Tomorrow City isn’t high. In the Mortal Realm, it can sustain only a few hundred meters, while in the spiritual realm, it could span several kilometers.”

“The cultivation level is sufficient, but they are all combat cultivators. If we ask them to take action, the project loses its meaning.”

Tang Si expanded her Spirit Sense, connecting with everyone and presenting many images.

She showed everyone the outcomes from several clubs.

Wood Element Law for pest control.

Talismans for expulsion.

Frightening creatures.

Automatic formations to detect and eliminate.

There were many students at the Cultivator School, and they utilized nearly every idea.

Various methods emerged.

Some chose expulsion, while others opted for different strategies.

“All these options have various drawbacks. The cost of talismans for expulsion is high, frightening creatures makes us Spiritual Law masters uncomfortable, and automatic formations can make quite a noise and require constant maintenance from cultivators.”

“In terms of potential plans, they are all feasible. Some areas are already clearing mosquitoes. However, efficiency can still improve. Pest control is a minor issue; it shouldn’t occupy too many resources. Only we students are suited for this.”

Tang Si explained.

“In other words, we need a method that can massively eliminate mosquitoes, preferably without requiring cultivators’ maintenance, that can be a one-time solution, won’t affect others, has to be low-cost, and quiet?”

The group listed these out in sequence, raising strange expressions. Could they really have it all?

“This sounds ridiculous. We could at most excel in one aspect, how could we balance so many?”

Tian Jialun complained.

They were only four years old; taking on such a project was too much to ask.

“List everything achievable and eliminate the impractical options. We will accommodate as many as we can,” Yun Ye suggested.

“Honestly, it feels like Wood Element Law aligns best with this need. A single release of poisonous mist can last a long time, covers a large range, and won’t affect others. The only downside is the high cost, requiring many cultivators. If we can find a more perfect Unique Spiritual Law, we might lower the cost. Perhaps we should research Wood Element Law.”

Wu Xianzhang proposed.

“Few of us have Wood Spiritual Roots; if we want to study it, we can only start with spirit patterns. Have you studied it enough?”

Yun Ye asked.

“…It seems we should change to another option.”

Wu Xianzhang decided firmly.

For a moment, the room fell silent. What good methods were there?

If this matter remained unresolved, Yong Fa would be annoyed every day, battling mosquitoes. More importantly, if he became furious, he would surely unleash some harsh words.

Though scolding wouldn’t kill anyone, it would still be an involuntary way to vent emotions, which was unavoidable.

Hmm?

Scolding?

Yun Ye suddenly had an idea: “Speaking of which, what do you think about curses?”
