Chapter 302: Special Existence

Lin Qingliu opened his eyes once again, finding himself in the lowest level that El had previously reached.

As a master of spatial pathways with higher-level abilities, Lin Qingliu’s grasp of Dimensional Shift and "Blink" far surpassed that of El, who was somewhat of a novice.

Upon arriving here in person, Lin Qingliu gained a clearer understanding of everything El had seen.

This was indeed the most important place.

Here, he saw a gigantic computer unlike anything he had ever encountered.

Surrounding the floating cube was a large circle of precise instruments, with rows of massive chassis encircling them, flickering with Green Lights, which even made someone like El—a semi-illiterate—mistake it for some kind of mysterious, unfinished structure.

This discovery was overwhelming for Lin Qingliu, leaving him momentarily at a loss.

As a soul from another world, Lin Qingliu felt the pain of being illiterate for the first time.

To be honest, even in his previous world, technology did not seem to have reached this level.

This meant that the consequences of his crossing over only became apparent now; every time he had inwardly mocked El’s semi-illiteracy, Lin Qingliu finally faced the consequences.

The gigantic computer alone left Lin Qingliu bewildered, and the floating cube behind the thick glass barrier made him feel utterly powerless.

At that moment, Lin Qingliu recognized the importance of having a strategist in the team—if Ji Yongxing had appeared here, things might have turned out differently.

Tens of kilometers away, in the middle of the night, Ji Yongxing was awakened and called upon for the dissection of the Fifth Level Extraordinary Beast, feeling an inexplicable itch in his nose.

After holding back a sneeze for a while, he managed not to disrupt the dissection in any way.

After contemplating, Lin Qingliu ultimately decided to take action.

This decision came from the rarity of the opportunity and because he had seen a data reading interface on the control panel of the giant computer.

That size and shape looked just like a portable terminal disguised as a thumb ring.

As Lin Qingliu was about to remove the thumb ring from his thumb to insert it into the data interface for authentication, he suddenly heard some subtle sounds.

The spire, a creation from the glorious period of human civilization, emanated technological perfection in every design.

However, no matter how precise the instruments, over time, errors and wear would inevitably appear.

At that moment, Lin Qingliu heard the faint sound of friction coming from the elevator dozens of meters away—a sound that would seem non-existent to an ordinary person, but not to him, who had heightened his five senses to the max.

Lin Qingliu immediately retracted the terminal in his hand, activating his spatial abilities to meld his body into the wall.

He chose not to directly Leap into the mysterious cubical space; that did not sound like a wise choice.

Soon, the narrow single-person elevator reached the lowest level, and the metal doors opened to the sides. A woman, appearing to be in her thirties, stepped inside.

She wore a common combat suit for superpowered individuals, but there were no signs of battle on it.

Lin Qingliu naturally recalled the recent BOSS battle, lacking anyone among the female superpowered individuals who resembled her.

Confusion arose in Lin Qingliu’s heart as he wondered if he had exposed any traces that led someone here. The superpowered individual before him also gave him an odd feeling, prompting him to repeatedly recall fragments of déjà vu memories.

Everything seemed suspicious, just like when El infiltrated this place, guarded by the Disaster Core. Now, another superpowered individual was present. Did something dangerous exist here?

Right, the Disaster Core…

Lin Qingliu recalled the faces from the first team. He understood their composition and, after matching abilities to appearances, he roughly guessed who the woman before him was—

The last superpowered individual from the first team he had never met, Infinite Scroll.

Like several other members of the first team, Infinite Scroll’s ability was considered legendary.

It was said that this woman had stored every piece of information since the establishment of Hope City in her mind, with backups of any confidential documents, making her a living library.

However, it seemed now that she was merely an operator of certain systems within the spire.

At this point, Lin Qingliu had a basic understanding of what the first team truly was.

They were merely the chosen ones, responsible for operating some of the systems belonging to the spire; it was hard to say if that was lucky or unlucky.

They might know the essence of the matter or might not; either way, it didn’t matter.

Holy Shield undoubtedly controlled the spire’s defense system, which explained why, even when he went elsewhere, Hope City could still maintain a sound hemispherical shield—after all, the remote control could be away from the air conditioning.

The systems encompassing Fortress should relate to underground material transformations. As Lin Qingliu descended deeper, he could feel the more significant differences between this planet and Earth.

However, such transformations seemed to have been ongoing for a long time. After all, not long after arriving in this world, he had successfully sent two lucky spectators deep underground. At that time, he did not sense anything unusual; evidently, these changes were leaning towards the mild.

As for "Starfall" and "Disaster Core," one controlled weapon systems, while the other harnessed an energy system that Lin Qingliu could not yet comprehend. The woman before him, Infinite Scroll, might merely be the database manager.

But what was her problem?

What was the cause of that strange feeling?

A flash of inspiration suddenly struck Lin Qingliu, and he realized where that familiarity came from. It was precisely from his experiences during that time when he sank below the surface.

The woman before him reminded him of the substances partially buried under the spire, though what characterized those substances was their past presence of a biological field, while Infinite Scroll made Lin Qingliu feel as if she had never been alive.

Considered that she had not appeared even in times of life and death for the spire, Lin Qingliu could confirm her basic combat power was lacking.

But then again, as a being able to move freely without a biological field, could one really be assessed by common sense?

Remembering this, Lin Qingliu felt Infinite Scroll’s uniqueness even more. After pondering, he decided to personally determine her abilities.

He stepped out from the wall and walked towards the chair where Infinite Scroll was seated.

She seemed completely unaware, still quietly gazing at the floating cube.

Lin Qingliu stopped behind the chair, deliberately making some noise to catch her attention.

Sure enough, the rotating chair slowly turned, and Infinite Scroll sat there, looking at Lin Qingliu with a calm expression.
