Chapter 303: The Inheritance Law

Infinite Scroll turned to face Lin Qingliu, and they stood and sat in silence, respectively, locking eyes.

Unlike any previous encounters Lin Qingliu had with others, facing the seemingly ordinary Infinite Scroll, who showed no hostility in her eyes, he felt no animosity or desire to act.

The feeling was mutual.

Before Lin Qingliu could ask, Infinite Scroll seemed to notice the thumb ring terminal on his hand and inquired in a calm tone,

“Detected a new terminal holder. Would you like to perform a permission verification?”

Her tone carried a coldness, devoid of any emotion, providing Lin Qingliu with a unique experience.

A smile spread across Lin Qingliu’s face, one that seemed difficult to contain or describe.

He understood where the sense of incongruity with Infinite Scroll came from and grasped her true essence.

She was a highly realistic robot, at least in appearance.

Lin Qingliu wanted to know whether the higher-ups in Hope City and the members of the first team were aware of her true identity, but the time for that was not yet right.

He first wanted to confirm what the so-called verification of permissions meant.

“Sure, let’s begin.”

Lin Qingliu raised his level of vigilance while maintaining a calm expression.

If there were hidden enemies, this would make for a perfect trap.

Infinite Scroll turned her body, pushing the rotating chair aside with one hand and gesturing for Lin Qingliu to step forward with the other.

She approached the main control panel of the gigantic computer. Although her body showed no sign of movement, operational commands quickly appeared on the screen with the movement of her eyes.

Lin Qingliu stood quietly to the side, observing operations that surpassed his knowledge.

After dozens, or perhaps hundreds, of pop-up windows flashed past, the title of the identity verification program finally appeared on the screen.

Simultaneously, a slot that could perfectly fit the thumb ring terminal lit up.

Along with it, a fingerprint verification area also illuminated.

Lin Qingliu understood the process and removed the thumb ring terminal, placing it into the slot.

After a brief reading, a line of text appeared on the screen:

【Identity verification successful, Greenhouse Administrator Bordeaux, Permission Level: 4】

【Would you like to initiate a new identity overwrite?】

Lin Qingliu scratched his head and looked at Infinite Scroll. Although he didn’t understand why, he felt she could answer his doubts:

“Does this mean I can replace Bordeaux’s identity?”

Lin Qingliu sensed that this development was not quite right; he couldn’t just wait for Bordeaux to wake up and find he had become a substitute…

“Yes.”

“But he’s still sleeping above.”

In the next moment, Lin Qingliu was sure he saw an extremely brief look of shock cross the face of the robot, as if she was saying: I thought you killed him.

“I thought you killed him,” she said.

Infinite Scroll’s emotionless words perfectly aligned with Lin Qingliu’s predictions.

Gazing into the eyes of this artificial intelligence, Lin Qingliu detected a faint trace of disappointment, as if lamenting his untapped potential.

It was as though he had finally arrived at the boss room, where the opponent exuded charisma and confidently believed that Lin Qingliu had earned the right to challenge him, unaware that this player’s most effective strategy was to indulge in feasting and relaxation before battle…

“Well, I could go ahead and kill now…”

“That won’t be necessary.”

Infinite Scroll did not reprimand him harshly; instead, she simply manipulated the program on the screen, forcibly ejecting Bordeaux’s ring.

She looked at Lin Qingliu, her tone still indifferent:

“You can create a new terminal file.”

“Won’t the message be synchronized with the other council members?”

“I will intercept it.”

After speaking, she briefly operated the host again, and the fingerprint sensor area lit up once more.

“Please verify your human identity.”

Lin Qingliu placed his palm on the sensor, feeling the fine needles collecting his tissue samples.

He turned his head toward Infinite Scroll:

“I don’t believe we’ve met before. You seem to trust me for some reason.”

Infinite Scroll nodded:

“First, your source of power is unlike anyone else’s in Hope City.”

Lin Qingliu pondered this; indeed, he fully understood this point, as his powers could be considered an otherworldly “import.”

“Second, you are the last pureblood human I could find. According to the inheritance law, you automatically inherit all human alliance legacies on this planet.

“Therefore, you are qualified to obtain a terminal and my assistance.”

The sheer weight of this information left Lin Qingliu momentarily at a loss for words, unsure of what to ask first.

He fully grasped the first reason, but the second one left him puzzled.

It wasn’t that he hadn’t considered the possibility of other humans being genetically impure; after all, with the existence of superpowers, genes might have already undergone drastic transformations.

But why was he considered a pureblood human?

Could his soul crossing and awakening abilities have triggered a “washing muscles and marrow” effect on his body?

Thinking of another question, he asked Infinite Scroll:

“Would you mind introducing yourself?”

“Sorry, your permission level is insufficient.”

As this expected response came, the text on the screen in front of Lin Qingliu changed.

【Gene verification successful. Administrator profile created. Terminal data being written…】

【Current Permission Level: 1】

Lin Qingliu raised an eyebrow, not for any particular reason, but because below the screen, alongside the 【Confirm】 option, there was another choice—【Verify Next Level Permission】.

An indescribable curiosity surged within Lin Qingliu: Pureblood? He was eager to discover just how pure he truly was.

He removed his palm from the sensor after completing the sampling and confidently selected the option on the right.

If this was a verification process, then something akin to an exam was sure to follow.

Lin Qingliu had imagined various scenarios that might unfold, but he never expected the first prompt to be—language selection.

Among the options, there was no common language of Hope City.

The dropdown menu offered only three choices, two of which he was proficient in.

Lin Qingliu felt his heart tighten suddenly, as if all his blood had rushed to fuel his rapidly working mind.

In that instant, all the novels he had read, the games he had played, and works with similar worldviews flooded his thoughts in a chaotic whirlwind.

To put it plainly, Lin Qingliu felt he had conceptualized at least three coherent worldviews in an astonishingly short time.

But to further understand the reality of this world, he still needed…

Selecting his mother tongue from his previous life, Lin Qingliu began to answer.
