Chapter 480: Human Tactics

The darkness and shadows caused Wang Xiao to lose his bearings, but fortunately, after just four or five seconds, the three of them reappeared above the city walls, where they were greeted by “Fresnel” and “Mercury,” who had been waiting for them.

The operation was a complete success, and everyone was thoroughly satisfied.

Wang Xiao had never underestimated the Fifth Level enemy; from the very beginning, he had planned to reserve “Fresnel’s” attack for the final moment. Meanwhile, “Mercury,” the emotionless buff machine, was the least informed about the overall strategy.

As the three of them returned safely, he joyfully stepped forward, patting them on the shoulders, his round face glowing with a radiant smile:

“That tactic was incredible! What level was that extraordinary beast? Fourth or Fifth?”

“Most likely Fifth.”

The part of Wang Xiao’s side that had been obliterated was nearly fully regenerated, but numerous fragments from the extraordinary beast shattering his exoskeleton remained embedded in his flesh.

As he spoke, he began to forcibly peel off the deformed and damaged exoskeleton from his body.

“Its regenerative ability is quite strong, but luckily, our initial strategy was to eliminate it swiftly.”

At this remark, everyone suddenly remembered something and turned their heads toward “Mercury,” who was holding the extraordinary beast’s head.

Hearing this, “Mercury” lifted the head he was holding.

It was a head that bore some resemblance to a human’s, but it was unmistakably not human.

At that moment, the head’s surface was covered in an unsightly black substance, formed by crystals melted under intense heat, along with marks left from dehydration and burning, making its already repulsive appearance even more grotesque.

Wang Xiao also noticed a new issue—

It seemed this thing wasn’t entirely dead…

The burning and crystallization had rendered the extraordinary beast’s severed limbs incapable of regeneration, but that didn’t mean it was completely lifeless.

Though it showed no signs of aggression, Wang Xiao could sense that life force still lingered within the head.

He reached out, intending to use his ability to absorb life force to deliver the final blow.

As if sensing something, the two large compound eyes on the head slowly opened, casting a mocking gaze at the executioner about to carry out the deed.

At that moment, a familiar voice emanated from the helmet Wang Xiao had already removed:

“Stop.”

Arthur had observed the entire decapitation operation, watching through surveillance cameras from multiple angles.

As a non-combat professional, he wasn’t particularly adept at large-scale command, but he had a decent grasp of small-scale tactics.

Seeing Wang Xiao’s plan executed flawlessly, even Lin Qingliu couldn’t help but marvel at the power of professionals.

The cameras still operating in the factory captured the commander extraordinary beast being shredded into uneven chunks by the machine, which then spewed out from the discharge opening.

Naturally, the extraordinary beasts couldn’t tolerate such a thing, but they were unable to comprehend what kind of machine this was, so they could only vent their fury through biting and roaring.

Some extraordinary beasts even leaped into the feed opening, meeting the same fate as their commander and being reduced to chunks.

With the conclusion of this decapitation operation, the momentum of this wave of beast tide shifted significantly.

The extraordinary beasts reverted to their most common state of chaos, losing the order they had maintained under their commander’s guidance.

This relatively disordered scenario was precisely what the well-trained city defense army and the formidable infantry soldiers of the Extinction Legion excelled at.

When Arthur shifted his gaze back to the city wall, he realized that the extraordinary beast was not entirely dead.

Seeing Wang Xiao poised to deliver a fatal strike, Arthur ultimately decided to intervene.

As expected, the moment he issued the command, the decay and withering on the other side ceased abruptly.

“Do you have any orders, Mr. Speaker?”

Wang Xiao asked as he adjusted his helmet.

“It would be a waste to kill it. Send it to Ji Yongxing and request two members from the Internal Affairs Clean-up Team. Perhaps we can extract some useful information.”

The voice was calm and composed, and it made no effort to conceal the words from the extraordinary beast, which had earlier mocked Wang Xiao. The beast clearly heard and understood.

Its tightly shut mouth suddenly gaped open, and its remaining head thrashed from side to side, trying to break free, all the while screaming:

“Kill me! Kill me!”

But who among them would care about the extraordinary beast’s pleas or taunts?

Though Wang Xiao doubted that human interrogation methods would work on such a creature, he obeyed without hesitation. He quickly found a piece of strong, resilient fabric, wrapped the head, and delivered it to the “Shadow Master.”

Even when carrying minimal items, his shadow transport allowed him to move at an astonishing speed.

Though visibly reluctant, the “Shadow Master” donned gloves, took the head, and vanished into the shadows behind the military supplies.

Inside the fabric, the extraordinary beast’s head alternated between mocking its captors and hurling human-like insults, but it received no response whatsoever.

As the “Shadow Master” moved deeper into the densely populated human areas, the connection between Clotho and His eldest son began to weaken.

Finally, after reaching a certain threshold, Clotho could no longer sense His child’s presence within the biological field.

“No!”

A mournful cry echoed through the Misty Forest near the outer city walls, reverberating in the feeble minds of every extraordinary beast.

They, too, felt the pain, the oppressive weight of their creator and ruler.

Their attacks grew fiercer but also more chaotic, placing immense pressure on the soldiers defending the walls.

And this was only the first wave of the final beast tide. Deep within the endless forest, more extraordinary beasts were gestating, and the blood relatives of the “commander” were rapidly growing, nourished by their feedings.

Though He had lost His eldest son, Clotho did not succumb entirely to grief. As the would-be creator of all, He could not afford to have only one child.

With the eldest’s failure, the blood relatives He had intended to protect were now destined to join the battle.

But this time…

Through the mycelium, Clotho observed the rational extraordinary beasts, still growing but not yet the size of adult humans.

Their minds were clear, yet they remained largely unaware of the war raging outside. Aside from eating and sleeping, they spent their time playfully wrestling with their siblings.

Though their combat abilities were not insignificant, they would likely struggle to endure if faced with the same tactics as before.

Nevertheless, as their creator, He needed these offspring to clear the path of humans for Him. Thus, He bestowed His “divine power,” imparting reasons and techniques for battle into the minds of these extraordinary beast offspring, as seen through His own perspective.

At the same time, several cocoons that had shown no signs of life—yet had not withered—sensed a genetic impulse and began to grow and develop once more.
