Chapter 310: The Battle to Slay the Gods, Refinement

As his body restored to its former state, Mu Lin roared furiously.

“You dare murder the City God! Villain with monstrous sins! You shall suffer in the Hell of No Escape, never to be reborn!”

Mu Lin’s judgment unleashed a force that blocked the senses, striking the Crimson Child’s consciousness. This power sought to imprison his soul in soundless darkness for eternity.

Yet it failed. The City God’s punishment required more than words – it needed strength to enforce. In underworld myths, hell overpowered the mortal realm. Hence the saying: "When Yama demands your death at third watch, none dare keep you till fifth." But against celestial beings, hell held no such dominance – thus gods lived forever.

The Crimson Child’s soul rank proved too high for Mu Lin’s darkness seal. But Mu Lin had prepared for this.

Rustling flowers surged around him as the Other Shore Flower sea materialized. Their illusionary ability targeted the Crimson Child’s mind, aiming to block his five senses. Empowered by Mu Lin’s divine authority as City God, natural forces amplified the flower sea’s power.

The combined might truly worked – the disoriented Crimson Child’s eyes darkened, his hearing faded…

Swoosh!

Though losing his senses, the creature kept attacking. Discovering Mu Lin alive, it swung its arms, unleashing blade winds that shredded Mu Lin’s body instantly – the Sentence of a Thousand Cuts claimed him again.

Yet light flared from the ‘Seal’ mark on Mu Lin’s forehead. The dead man returned.

Now deprived of touch, the Crimson Child struck again. A blood-red glow shimmered along its blade this time.

"…Soul attack!"

Black river water suddenly pooled beneath Mu Lin’s feet. He sank into the Black Water, reappearing elsewhere.

Hummm!

The Crimson Child’s Cicada Wings buzzed, pursuing through teleportation. Its blade swept toward Mu Lin’s head.

"Transcendence!"

Mu Lin’s eyes hardened as his aura turned otherworldly. [Trait: Transcendence]

This elevated his soul beyond mortal reach, evading most of the crimson blade’s strike. Though grazed, the transcendent state prevented soul-severing – only injury remained. The ‘Seal’ character immediately stabilized his wounds.

Splash!

Detached and logical in transcendence, Mu Lin endured the soul-pain. He shifted position again through black river water, the combat dance continuing.

This time, Mu Lin teleported straight into the black river.

"Boom…"

Shortly after entering the black river water, the Crimson Child pursued him again, swinging his blade toward Mu Lin.

This time, the attack failed completely.

"Roooar!"

The moment he entered the black river, Mu Lin summoned Ink Dragon, the River Lord for protection.

When the Crimson Child entered the dark waters, Ink Dragon, the River Lord immediately blocked him using the black river water – the three-headed six-armed Asura being a land creature struggled to fight effectively here.

Mu Lin didn’t hesitate. Ink Dragon, the River Lord churned the black river water into a massive whirlpool, sucking the Crimson Child into its vortex. The corrosive waters began dissolving the Asura’s body and energy.

"Die!"

"Hsss…"

Crippled in the aquatic environment, the Crimson Child floundered desperately. Then red light flashed as its humanoid form stretched into a serpentine shape.

Another Ink Dragon materialized in the black river, clashing with Mu Lin’s companion.

"CRASH!"

Waves surged and thunder rolled as the two dragons battled fiercely, neither gaining advantage.

"Wait… his energy’s fading!" Mu Lin’s eyes lit up. Instead of fleeing, he used the royal authority crown to command Ink Dragon, the River Lord, gaining control over the Black Water himself.

Merging with the City God manifestation, Mu Lin shaped the dark waters into chains and torture devices binding the Crimson Child’s dragon form.

"Guilty! You’ll endure iron nail impalement…"

Layers of torturous restraints clamped onto the thrashing dragon. Though clumsy at first, the Crimson Child’s draconic movements grew fluid and deadly – a lethal dance unleashing 300% of its power.

"Shit!" Mu Lin cursed as his own Ink Dragon got shredded. He immediately teleported away using the black river water.

The victorious dragon didn’t linger – the Grave Lord’s specially prepared seal drained its energy while dissolving its body. To survive, it had to escape the black river’s corrosive prison.

Mu Lin gave it no chance to recover.

The moment he escaped, he used a Substitute Paper Figure to create Ink Dragon, the River Lord. Any further delay would’ve allowed the serpent to enter the underground dark river and reignite their battle.

"Roar!"

Forced to emerge from the dark river, the Crimson Child was immediately met with the dreaded voice of judgment.

"You stand guilty…"

Within the City God Realm, Mu Lin’s judgment proved inescapable. The forces of nature converged around him through his divine decree, forming instruments of punishment to judge the creature.

Trapped with no will to flee—its revival still incomplete—the Crimson Child instinctively lunged at Mu Lin again.

"Boom!"

What followed was a relentless chase. Mu Lin fled while reciting judgments against the Crimson Child’s sins, as the monstrosity pursued him with murderous intent.

The Beiwai Army, Substitute Paper Figures, Ink Dragon, the River Lord, sealed hundred evils, and Manjusaka bloomed into action—each summoned subordinate hindering the Crimson Child’s advance. Mu Lin further shielded himself with Cangshan Yumen Pass and City of Heaven’s Funeral.

Every step cost the Crimson Child dearly.

"Spirit of the Formation! No retreat, only death! Charge!"

"Woooo…"

"Roar!"

"Crash!"

Thunderbolts, torrents, phantom steeds, and weeping female ghosts transformed Mu Lin into a one-man army. Yet the Crimson Child matched this fury—shape-shifting body and peerless combat skills breaching Mu Lin’s defenses repeatedly, delivering killing blows.

Then came the true horror.

Mu Lin couldn’t die.

Beheading? Waist-severing? Sentence of a Thousand Cuts? Each injury vanished the next instant.

Thirty times. Thirty-seven. However the Crimson Child struck, Mu Lin kept returning. Such immortality would crush any warrior’s spirit. Though mindless, the Crimson Child’s body faltered—energy draining with each failed strike.

"You will die!"

"Gulp!"

A hulking figure swallowed the Crimson Child whole, ending the battle…

"Not yet. Only its complete destruction ends this."

Using Zhong Kui—now containing the Crimson Ruler—as the formation’s heart, Mu Lin channeled the remaining Beiwai Army, Other Shore Flower sea, and paper figures to activate the Cycle of Life and Death. His goal: grind the dormant Crimson Ruler to nothing through relentless refinement.
