Chapter 814: A Heavy Responsibility Again

The remaining battles no longer required Ye Yun’s consideration, as his clash with Mo Wenxian had already deterred anyone from challenging him. He could now refocus on his preparations. If all went well, he would begin fully supporting the human race.

"My position in the Immortal Dao Sect is now unshakable. No one can strip me of my status anymore. I must focus on the Demon Emperor’s affairs and that strange power of the stars in the Celestial-Demon battlefield—could it be connected to him?" Ye Yun recalled faint traces he’d noticed earlier, spotting a massive formation beneath sword scars. When his gaze fell upon Feng Xue Yi, an inexplicable unease prickled his mind.

"What’s truly happening? If she harbors secrets, I’ll need to prepare." Suppressing his thoughts, Ye Yun glanced at Feng Xue Yi, the leader of Star Sword Sect. A flicker of killing intent vanished as he offered her a cordial smile. Feng Xue Yi reciprocated, their interaction deceptively calm.

Yet Ye Yun knew his sword wouldn’t hesitate if he uncovered her treachery. Suddenly sensing Shen Zhongyang’s spirit perception, Ye Yun’s expression shifted. Activating spatial laws, he vanished. Elder Xing assumed he’d left for urgent matters and didn’t ponder further.

"Sect Leader, what requires my presence?" Appearing instantly in the Immortal Dao Hall, Ye Yun studied Shen Zhongyang’s furrowed brows. Normally occupied with sect affairs, the leader’s summons hinted at grave matters.

Shen Zhongyang sighed. "Elder Ye Yun, though this burdens you, will you aid the Immortal Dao Sect once more?"

Resentment churned within Ye Yun, but he forced calm. "If this involves another suicide mission to the Demon Race’s forbidden lands, find another fool."

"Not the forbidden lands." Shen Zhongyang’s voice tightened. "Retrieve the magic source crystal from the Celestial-Demon battlefield for Grand Elder Mu Zhi. Only this can avert disaster."

"So it’s true." Ye Yun’s face hardened. "Mu Zhi’s breakthrough stems from Demon Realm energy."

"You’ve uncovered it. Resolve this, and the sect will owe you its highest favor." Shen Zhongyang grimaced, knowing the request repelled Ye Yun. But with his trusted ally Mu Zhi corrupted and other elders incapable of concealing their auras, only Ye Yun remained.

"Isn’t this reckless?" Ye Yun countered. "The Demon Race lurks on that battlefield, awaiting their moment. Opening a path now invites calamity."

The magic source crystal lay in sealed demon god domains—a near-fatal task. Ye Yun awaited Shen Zhongyang’s justification.

"Name any resource from the sect’s vaults. Without that crystal, Mu Zhi will lose control." Desperation edged Shen Zhongyang’s tone.

Ye Yun inhaled sharply. Refusal might breed worse consequences. "For the common folk, I’ll endure. But how will you mask my presence?"

"Our sect maintains a stable tunnel to the battlefield. Depart immediately." Shen Zhongyang smiled faintly, sensing compliance.

"Trapped already?" Ye Yun noticed glowing array patterns beneath his feet. Protest was futile—the formation activated regardless.

"Ancestor, what awaits us here?" Ye Yun muttered as scenery warped around him.

"Adventure!" The Ancestor chuckled. Having absorbed soul water, his spirit strengthened enough to devour demon god remnants. Full recovery seemed possible.

Demonic energy assaulted Ye Yun’s senses upon landing—thicker than he remembered. Scorched earth stretched endlessly, littered with demon bones no soil could bury. Dispelling the miasma, he focused. His goal wasn’t lamentation but survival.

Magic source crystals resembled Immortal Spirit Stones, accelerating recovery. Premium ones could purchase low-tier demon slaves. His destination likely involved such trades.

"Should’ve refused." Ye Yun surveyed the wasteland. Demon god inheritances required luck, but he’d obliterated the Celestial Tower in Seven Demon Heavens—a lost opportunity. Blind searching wasted time he couldn’t afford, yet northward he trudged.

"Demonic energy saturates this place. Inheritances abound for the fortunate," the Ancestor remarked. "But focus—secure the crystal before the Demon Emperor breaks free."

Ye Yun nodded. Resisting demonic energy now, thanks to prior transformations, granted him an edge. Regret flickered—had he preserved demon god memories, navigation would’ve been easier.

"Ancestor, am I too passive?" Ye Yun maintained steady progress, shrouded by the Ancestor’s Deceptive Array to avoid demon hordes.

"Boldness invites death here. Slow steps keep you breathing—though speed has merits too." The Ancestor’s teasing laughter echoed as Ye Yun scowled.
