Chapter 218: Ambushed and Surrounded

Fang Lie’s next target was Wo Hu Island, named after a mountain resembling a crouching tiger.

The island housed a bustling town inhabited by tens of thousands of cultivators. The Four Seas Alliance operated a sizable medium-sized shop here, which also served as a warehouse supplying nearby stores. This location held the alliance’s largest stockpile of goods.

Fang Lie calculated that raiding this single site would inflict losses equivalent to ten medium-sized shops.

Upon reaching the coast, Fang Lie stowed his black awning boat and soared boldly into the sky, aiming to enter the town directly.

But at that moment, passersby suddenly pivoted as if receiving a signal, charging at Fang Lie with bloodshot eyes!

The nearest attacker was a Golden Pool realm cultivator who’d crept up from the side. He abruptly unleashed a top-grade third-rank Water Flying Sword—a silent, glowing arc aimed at Fang Lie’s neck.

Having sensed danger upon arrival, Fang Lie remained vigilant. He instantly countered the ambush, growling, "A mere Golden Pool cultivator dares ambush me?"

Drawing his Devouring Heaven Chaos Halberd, he first smashed the incoming sword aside. His golden wings then flashed as he closed the distance in an instant, halberd swinging downward!

The man panicked at Fang Lie’s brutal speed, hastily summoning a protective treasure—a massive bronze plaque.

But third-tier magical items stood no chance against fifth-rank treasures. The crowd watched Fang Lie’s halberd cleave through both man and shield like paper.

Fang Lie magically retrieved the scoundrel’s Sumeru Bags before glaring at the encircling crowd. "Why attack me?"

"You’re Fang Lie! Those flashy wings make you easy prey. Didn’t you know the Four Seas Alliance wants your head? Walking here openly is suicide!"

"Just die quietly by my hand—I’ll make it quick!"

"Enough talk! His head and fifth-rank treasure belong to me!"

The mob’s greedy eyes treated Fang Lie like cornered game. Their words revealed everything—the Four Seas Alliance had offered fifth-rank treasures for his life.

No wonder they’d attacked immediately. His conspicuous wings acted like beacons, while the bounty tempted countless greedy souls.

Fang Lie realized fleeing would mean endless pursuit across Wanxing Sea’s millions of cultivators. His future would become constant evasion—unacceptable for someone valuing open defiance.

He resolved to fight spectacularly today. Even in death, he’d teach these hunters fear. Better yet, his undying nature meant he could slaughter them repeatedly until none dared challenge him.

Laughing wildly, Fang Lie roared, "Want my head? Come take it! Let’s see who claims this prize!"

He surged forward instead of retreating. The Devouring Heaven Chaos Halberd flashed—a cultivator’s head tumbled before his body hit the ground. Fang Lie’s fifth-rank treasure and golden wings made him unstoppable against Golden Pool foes.

Within moments, multiple corpses littered the ground, their Sumeru Bags joining Fang Lie’s Spoils of War. Yet more cultivators swarmed in—nearly a hundred now, with reinforcements arriving from nearby.

"Brothers, attack together!" someone shouted. "He’s just a Qi Sea cultivator! His magic can’t sustain that treasure long!"

"Kill him and split the fifth-rank treasure!"

"A hundred against one Qi Sea weakling? Crush him!"

The mob unleashed flying swords, treasures, divine skills, and Dao magic, flooding the sky with Sword Energy, Divine Light, whirling treasures, and roaring Fire Dragons.

But their chaotic barrage couldn’t touch Fang Lie. His golden wings—enhanced by the Explosion Qi Technique and Blood Ignition Technique—propelled him at speeds rivaling Golden Pool cultivators’ flying swords.

Moreover, Fang Lie possessed multiple protective treasures like the Demon-Subduing Golden Bowl and Bright Silver Shield – both Fourth-tier Magical Items. His attackers, mere Golden Pool realm cultivators, wielded third-tier magical items at best. Their inferior weapons couldn’t breach his defenses.

Amidst the barrage of attacks, Fang Lie moved effortlessly, darting freely across the battlefield. Whenever he closed distance with an enemy, his halberd claimed another head. More cultivators fell to his weapon while he remained untouched, a true tiger among sheep!

Within mere minutes, thirty of the hundred besiegers lay dead while Fang Lie fought with increasing ferocity. The Golden Pool cultivators panicked – cowards fled while even the bold reconsidered their attack.

With morale crumbling, victory seemed certain for Fang Lie.

Then a shriveled old man arrived, eyes gleaming with power, purple energy swirling around his chest – a Purple Palace realm cultivator. "Out of my way, fools!" he roared. "The Founder claims Fang Lie’s head!"

He launched a blazing fire spear – a top-grade fourth-rank treasure. The fiery projectile tore through air with a screaming whistle, its sharp, piercing sound alone could shatter the focus of weaker minds. A perfect ambush weapon, fired shamelessly at Fang Lie’s exposed back.

By the time Fang Lie turned, the spear nearly impaled his face. The Demon-Subduing Golden Bowl activated automatically, deflecting the lethal strike.

Enraged by the cowardly attack, Fang Lie charged the old man. The elder tried recalling his weapon for another strike, but Fang Lie unleashed the Devouring Heaven Chaos Halberd. A Taotie Divine Beast’s shadow materialized and devoured the fire spear – convenient nourishment for the fire-element treasure.

Before the old man could react, Fang Lie’s halberd descended. With a final cry, both cultivator and his Fourth-tier protective treasure split in twain. The corpse halves crashed onto sand, frozen expressions of terror and disbelief etched on the intact face.

This instant slaying of a Purple Palace expert shattered the remaining attackers’ resolve. They scattered like frightened mice.

As Fang Lie finally relaxed, five Purple Palace Masters emerged from hiding. Twin Men in Black clasped hands at the periphery, chanting secret techniques. Fang Lie suddenly struggled as if drowning in thick brine – limbs moving through molasses.

The remaining three attacked:

A yellow-robed Taoist swung a Fifth Rank Divine Sword heavier than mountains toward Fang Lie’s skull.

A Black-robed Elder waved a soul-summoning banner, unleashing a horde of shrieking ghosts.

A deceptively gentle-looking woman in yellow released hundreds of crimson poison Gu insects seeking to burrow into flesh.
