Chapter 91: More Misunderstandings

Back then, to gain the Lin Family’s focused cultivation, Zhou Luo had tried everything to make a positive impression on Lin Zhi Shou, which led to the latter now holding him in high esteem.

If Lin Xin were to report his recent remarks to the family now,

though it might not provoke the family’s towering fury, it would undoubtedly create friction.

After all, an outsider who never considered themselves part of the Lin Family, no matter how talented, wouldn’t be worth the family’s continued investment.

Previously, both the Great Elder and the main family wanted to pull him to their side, precisely because they believed in his loyalty to the Lin Family.

If the family concluded he was disloyal, they would naturally withdraw all support.

While eating, Zhou Luo thought more and more, realizing how serious the situation was.

So, after returning the dishes, once he had prepared all his explanations, he knocked on Lin Xin’s door.

The soundproof symbols only isolated the sounds from inside the room, so his knocking must be audible to Lin Xin.

However, after waiting a moment, she didn’t come to open the door.

Was she genuinely angry?

This is bad, Zhou Luo thought to himself, knowing he absolutely had to give a proper explanation; otherwise, his future within the family would be completely ruined.

Thus, he had no choice but to knock again.

Bang Bang Bang—

The dull sounds echoed repeatedly. Zhou Luo spoke, "Third Young Lady, what happened earlier was a misunderstanding. I can explain."

But for some unknown reason, she still didn’t open the door.

Forced to press on, Zhou Luo continued, "Everything I said back there was to avoid trouble; it wasn’t sincere."

"If it hadn’t been for the family’s cultivation, how could I possibly be where I am today? I’ve always been immensely grateful to the family; I never felt like I wasn’t part of the Lin Family."

"The family has treated me so well; how could I possibly not see myself as a Lin Family member?"

Before he could finish, the door was suddenly yanked open.

Lin Xin glared at him. "Are you done yet?"

Before seeing her, Zhou Luo caught a whiff of a light, refreshing fragrance. Upon seeing Lin Xin herself,

he was surprised to find that she seemed to have just finished bathing. Her dark, beautiful hair still bore traces of moisture. She was clad in a single robe, which couldn’t fully conceal her enviable figure, especially the sight of her ample bosom, one couldn’t help but stay fixed on it.

Could she be…

Zhou Luo now understood why she hadn’t opened the door.

He quickly lowered his gaze but accidentally glimpsed her slender, fair legs. A few water droplets still clung to the soft curve of her calves, a sight that stirred the blood.

He could only turn away, full of apology, saying, "Third Young Lady, I didn’t know you were—"

Slam—

The door was forcefully shut again.

Zhou Luo stood stunned, speechless.

It seemed the situation was getting worse.

Inside the room, Lin Xin sat on a chair, her long, slender legs incredibly alluring under the robe, her flushed face now set in an ashen expression.

She had always maintained the habit of taking baths at home, so after coming here, naturally, she hadn’t skipped it either.

She just hadn’t expected Zhou Luo to show up at such a critical moment.

The key point was, because of the soundproof symbols, she couldn’t make any noise to be heard outside.

Originally, she thought he would give up knocking and tactfully leave after a while.

But who would have guessed this guy would only intensify his efforts, even starting to loudly explain himself outside the door?

This was practically asking for everyone to mock him.

So, Lin Xin, setting aside her shame, hastily threw a robe over herself before opening the door. After yelling at him, she slammed the door shut again.

Her beautiful eyes fixed on the wooden tub; any desire to continue the bath vanished instantly. She began getting dressed.

Outside the door, Zhou Luo was rooted to the spot – leaving felt wrong, staying felt wrong.

Luckily, Wang Yu Wei opened her door just then.

"Just a few sentences, is it really necessary to be so nervous?" Wang Yu Wei smiled at him, then added meaningfully, "Or was this deliberate?"

Zhou Luo chuckled bitterly.

He thought, ‘I’m more wronged than Dou E could ever be!’

Who would have guessed this Third Young Lady would forgo the cleaning symbols provided by the Immortal Sect and insist on taking a bath?

Just now, he had been too anxious to explain, leading to this incredibly awkward predicament.

Faced with Wang Yu Wei’s teasing now, he said helplessly, "I tell you it was an accident, do you believe me?"

"Believe you? Of course I believe you."

As she spoke, Wang Yu Wei stepped out of her room, lost in thought. "She’s already engaged. You really shouldn’t pull stunts like this in the future; it doesn’t look good."

"I…" Zhou Luo was momentarily speechless.

He didn’t want this either.

"Alright, just teasing you," Wang Yu Wei gave a light laugh.

While the two were talking, Lin Xin’s door opened once more.

Having changed into a simple, knee-length white dress, she regarded them both with an icy expression.

"If you did that on purpose, I will gouge your eyes out."

She stared at Zhou Luo, her voice chillingly cold.

"Third Young Lady, it truly was an accident," Zhou Luo said, feeling utterly helpless.

"What exactly did you want to say earlier?" Lin Xin ignored his defence, shifting the subject instead.

"I wanted to explain what I said just now to that fellow surnamed Lu," Zhou Luo straightened up, his expression sincere.

"Oh, I see. No need to explain," Lin Xin responded coldly.

"Well, that…" Zhou Luo tried to continue.

Lin Xin cut him off directly, "Relax, I haven’t sunk so low as to waste my time spreading petty gossip about something like this."

Hearing this, Zhou Luo felt a weight lift off his shoulders. He immediately tried to praise her, "Third Young Lady is indeed magnanimous, forthright and…"

"Stop," Lin Xin halted him, then turned to Wang Yu Wei. "And you, why are you standing here?"

"I came to find Zhou Luo about something," Wang Yu Wei replied, pushing Zhou Luo aside as she spoke.

Lin Xin eyed them both suspiciously.

By then, Zhou Luo had been pushed aside. He called out, "Third Young Lady, my loyalty to the Lin Family is something Heaven itself can bear witness to…"

Bang!

The only reply was the sound of her door slamming shut.

"Hard to tell your face is so thick-skinned too," Wang Yu Wei commented, covering her mouth in laughter as she witnessed this.

"You don’t understand, this is called the law of survival," Zhou Luo declared proudly.

"Fine, fine, fine. So, shouldn’t you come into the room and teach me about it?" Wang Yu Wei said playfully, pushing him towards her room.

Inside her room, Wang Yu Wei shut the door securely, the smile still playing on her lips.

Zhou Luo sat in a chair. Lin Xin’s words earlier had eased the worry gnawing at him.

He looked at Wang Yu Wei near the doorway and said, "Speak. What information do you have about this place?"

Ever since learning that this trip to the Immortal Sect would likely only yield some rewards at most, Zhou Luo had been desperately keen to know what information Wang Yu Wei held onto, hoping it might offer some shred of comfort.

A barely noticeable flicker of something unreadable passed through Wang Yu Wei’s eyes.

Her expression, however, softened into a radiant smile. She sat down opposite him, resting her right hand on the table, and said, "And your sincerity?"

Without wasting words, Zhou Luo directly pulled out a jade bottle from his inner pocket and placed it on the table.

Wang Yu Wei’s beautiful eyes glinted slightly. She picked it up and inspected it carefully.

Confirming it contained the Bi Shui Dan, her smile deepened.

But before she could put it away, Zhou Luo suddenly snatched the bottle back.

"And your sincerity?" Zhou Luo returned her words verbatim.
