Chapter 129
byChapter 129: The Whisper of the Void
“Hahaha!”
“Excellent! Excellent!”
“We achieved initial battle results!”
“We found the target so quickly!”
Alebi, leading the army of Outer Gods from the Void, was immensely pleased.
Though his Divine Body had undergone "chaotification," he was still considered among the strongest of the Outer Gods, and could rival many of the main deities on the Order-side in the Bubble World.
He was stronger than many at the lowest rank, even possessing the energy of a back-row councilor.
He abandoned the freedom of being an Outer God to ally with Ralekin, not out of admiration for Ralekin, but to use him as a stepping stone for greater power.
For example, to formally become a member of the Chaos Council.
Recently, Alebi heard that a vacancy in the lowest rank had opened up in the Chaos Council, and he believed his chance had arrived!
“What did that unambitious fellow Galadent know!”
“As long as I could eliminate this strange Outer God, I would gain enough reputation and resources.”
“And Ralekin, desperate to secure his shaky position in the council with one more ally, would surely propose me as a candidate for a chaos councilor!”
“At least for the lowest rank!”
“Now, let the battle plan commence!”
“Brothers, let this fellow experience our expertise!”
“Listen!”
“This is the voice of creation! It would mess with your mind, alternating between fear and anger!”
“Uh… Gugh…”
As the Outer Gods flew while intermittently flapping their wings, terrifying sound waves echoed around the waters near the peninsula; dreadful, distorted murmurs resonated continuously, low but spreading far and wide!
—-
At the isthmus entrance of the peninsula, a great battle was unfolding.
“Praise the Giant God.”
Loseta said reverently, her lips parting slightly.
Beside her were the spread-out Valaharl line soldiers and the "death warriors."
According to the battle plan, the death warriors were not used in independent clusters but were spread out across the defensive line to support the Valaharl line soldiers, defending and striking important enemy points.
The "Solar Knights" and "evil god slayers" formed flexible "strike squads," responsible for breaking through enemy weak spots and acting as emergency reinforcements in key moments.
The "Ashen Knights" consisted of smaller, more agile kill teams, specifically tasked with hunting high-value targets like the "Demon Prince," "Prince of Demons," and "Chaos Abomination."
This setup seemed foolproof and strong, but Loseta knew that against deities, even the best mortal plans were useless; without support from their own deity and the magic counterforce field, the mortal positions would face terrible bombardments from strategic magic.
Any careful arrangement or perfect plan would fall apart before such unfair attacks.
It was like modern warfare without air control, letting enemy planes bomb whatever they wanted…
But the tragedy didn’t happen.
“Bang——!”
“Thud——!”
“Slay——!”
“Zzzt—Humm——!”
The battlefield saw fierce back-and-forth fighting.
Loseta saw a chaos mass getting harshly blocked by the line soldiers and death warriors at the front, unable to push forward.
When the demon commander, a male Demon Prince, finally charged in himself, five Ashen Knights who’d lain waiting cut him down.
The remaining demons quickly broke under the Solar Knights’ flank strikes.
The assault shattered instantly.
…
Though the chaos forces held clear numbers, they got bewildered by the Valaharl-Themis alliance’s nimble tactics.
This too was why Loseta kept whispering thankful prayers to the Giant God.
The pre-battle "prayer drills" worked. Countless unified prayers and chants created huge echoes in the Soul Network.
A vast "belief force field" cloaked the whole battlefield, even linking with the "Giant God’s Tower" behind. Those white giant towers acted like amplifiers, boosting the "belief force field" further.
Golden "light orbs" danced excitedly everywhere, wildly unleashing "interference fields" against chaos in the sky.
Thus the chaos gods’ magic got countered and blocked!
"The Giant God’s Will" shielded them!
"This is why I dared set our lines this way."
Glade stepped near Loseta, watching the front clash.
"The wondrous white giant towers, the Soul Network gifted by the Giant God, and our loyal belief in Him built a net that stops chaos magic!"
"The evil gods opposite hesitate in shock."
"They’ve never seen this. Unsure if our deity stands right behind us, they just hurl wave after wave of fodder to die."
"This might be mankind’s first time standing firm against chaos without deities on the main battlefield."
Loseta nodded blankly, blasting apart a Demon Prince rallying demons with her construct arm’s magic cannon.
"Great Savior."
"Mustn’t fail Him."
Yet right then…
"Hrn… G’mah… B’lurp…"
Sinister, guttural mutters reached the lines, echoing in every warrior’s ear.
"Urk…"
"Ngh…"
Loseta had a headache.
As a Champion Chosen One, she felt this way; it was even harder for other warriors.
The prayers echoing in the Soul Network stopped suddenly!
The force field against the Chaos Demon God weakened sharply!
"What is this…?"
"Whispers of the void!?"
"Genesis murmurs!"
Even Loseta couldn’t stay calm anymore.
Her voice finally changed a bit.
But she wasn’t worried about herself or the Positions; it was about the Giant God!
Though silence and fearlessness were the Valaharl people’s special traits, that didn’t mean they were dumb.
Many Valaharl people were very knowledgeable.
Loseta was the same; she remembered reading about "Whispers of the void" and "Genesis murmurs."
This was a scary language, one that could make a deity’s Soul shake or even break.
Any being born in this world or the whole Quagmire Universe would be hit!
"The Giant God…"
Loseta looked worriedly into the distance.
"May the Giant God be safe."
—-
Trilobite didn’t know someone was blessing him.
But for a moment, he felt uneasy.
"Damn!"
"What the hell!?"
"Did I poke a hornet’s nest!?"
Trilobite looked up at the small black clouds buzzing overhead.
"Hornets don’t act like this."
Hornets or yellow jackets usually attack only if their nest is poked or they feel threatened.
Bullying the "sentinels" wandering outside wouldn’t cause trouble.
"And you’re not hornets."
"From how they act, they’re not even true social insects."
The group of "flying insects" wasn’t one species but a mix of sizes, though not many kinds; and they weren’t united.
They often bumped into each other, collided, and fought over airspace.
Among them, there was one big insect that stood out the most!
"Hmm, this must be what they call ‘nuptial flight,’ right?"
"All kinds of bugs gathered together?"
Nuptial flight was a common phenomenon; in spring and summer, when people walked under trees or by lakes, they often saw a swarm of little bugs flying around aimlessly.
If you didn’t go around and accidentally walked through, you might find a couple buzzing in your nose, eyes, or ears.
Sometimes, the nuptial flight of little bugs also attracted their predators, or the place where they were mating happened to be a prime location, causing a mix of big and small insects to swarm together.
"But what about the types of these fellows…?"
Trilobite recognized many smaller bugs.
Some had long "necks" with tiny heads, looking very unbalanced; others had two pairs of wings and a set of duck wings on their thorax.
However, most were more typical, resembling today’s mayflies.
"They should be members of the ancient lacewing order."
The ancient lacewing order was confirmed to be one of the earliest insects with wings.
They survived from the Carboniferous period to the Permian period, and most were medium to large insects.
As for their heads…
"Hmm, they look very much like giant Megaloptera?"
"But a bit bigger!"
The "giant" in giant Megaloptera was no lie.
Based on fossil evidence, this creature’s wingspan reached an astonishing 55 cm, with the possibility of exceeding 60 cm; it was a terrifying insect the size of a pigeon.
Other than that, its appearance was quite "boring," resembling a large Carboniferous mosquito.
But its two forked tail filaments were unusually long, nearly matching its body length; including those, this fellow could be over a meter long!
"Buzz—!"
"Buzz—!"
These bugs buzzed annoyingly around his head.
They sometimes flew with just one pair of wings while rubbing the second pair together, making strange "squeak" and "gurgle" noises.
"It seems they’re truly mating and courting."
"Even making courtship calls."
"Though they sound much worse than crickets and grasshoppers."
"Who knew the ancient lacewing order had this ability? Learned something new."
"If I traveled back, I could publish a solid paper—maybe even in Nature."
"But…"
"Gurgle…"
His stomach rumbled softly.
Trilobite glanced at his Status, which displayed one big word—Hungry!
"I’m hungry!"
"Can’t focus on papers now."
"Hmm, time to attack."
"Except…"
These ancient lacewing order ""bugs"" seemed to notice a powerful "predator" beneath them, keeping a cautious distance from Trilobite.
At least, Trilobite felt his "Flip the World Off" tactic wouldn’t reliably catch these ""bugs"".
"Then I’ll use that move."
"Whoosh—!"
Trilobite took a deep breath, then…
"Glug…"
He plunged underwater, opened his mouth, and gulped a huge mouthful!
Still, Trilobite didn’t know his saliva was blending with the water, changing its very nature!
