Chapter 133: Handling the Resentful Souls

The Grievous Spirit Forest remained dangerous due to its troublesome nature, making even seasoned cultivators avoid it. Yet forming such forest required specific conditions—first accumulating enough resentment to grow Yinfeng trees, which then attracted more souls to gradually develop into full Grievous Spirit Forest.

The enormous forest You You’s group entered demanded countless souls to sustain itself. None anticipated the Grave of Ten Thousand Ghosts buried beneath.

True to its name, the grave housed countless spirits. Such mass deaths usually stemmed from wars or disasters. Whatever tragedy occurred here left not just corpses but legions of resentful souls. Countless ghostly figures crawled from the earth, their twisted visages revealing lifetimes of suffering. Trapped for years under resentment’s corrosion, these mindless spirits now attacked wildly, their collective malice darkening the sky. Swarms dove toward the living below.

"Sect master, watch out!" multiple voices shouted.

Both groups reacted instantly. Wu Yue’s disciples sprang up from kneeling positions, instinctively shielding their leader in protective formation.

Meanwhile, You You stepped forward, pulling Yuan Qi and others behind her.

Everyone: "……"

Wu Yue: "……"

Do attractive people always act this differently?

(⊙_⊙)

Before contemplation, the soul tsunami hit. Crimson eyes glowed through black resentment clouds, freezing blood in veins.

You You summoned classroom-taught fire control without hesitation. A basic flame technique exploded into roaring inferno under her command, rushing to meet the spirits.

While Grievous Spirit Forest feared fire, would its inhabitants?

Flames halted the advance, burning through resentment to reveal clearer ghost forms. Piercing wails filled air, soul-shaking in intensity.

You You frowned at the unnatural sounds. Suddenly Wu Yue’s entire group clutched ears, collapsing in agony. Some fainted outright.

"Wu Yue!" You You moved to assist.

"Brother Ning!" Nie Zheng’s cry turned her to see Ning Rui similarly afflicted.

"The ghostly cries penetrate hearts—their cultivation’s too weak." Yuan Qi’s expression tightened. "Seal their senses."

He gestured toward Wu Yue’s group. They collapsed unconscious but calmer. Nie Zheng sealed Ning Rui’s senses just as the youth slurred, "Sect master…the wails…words…" before dropping.

Only You You, Yuan Qi and Nie Zheng remained standing.

Focusing, You You detected layered pleas beneath the screeches:

"Save me…anyone…"

"Don’t want to die…"

"Home…take me home…"

"Why…why…"

"These are their deathbed thoughts," Yuan Qi sighed. "Bound by the forest, eroded daily—trapped in final moments without sanity."

"They’re scattering!" Nie Zheng pointed upward.

The fire-burned spirits now fled in all directions, avoiding flames.

"Stop them!" Nie Zheng urged. "If they reach Mortal Realm…" Ordinary humans couldn’t withstand this madness.

But numbers overwhelmed containment efforts. As Nie Zheng panicked, Yuan Qi traced symbols. Golden light spread from his feet, covering entire Scorched Earth with massive formation. A translucent dome encapsulated forest and fleeing spirits.

"This traps them temporarily," Yuan Qi said, watching spirits batter the barrier. "No permanent solution."

"What then?" You You frowned. "Nie Zheng, traditional methods?"

"Transcendence or sealing until resentment fades," the Immortal answered.

"Can you transcend them?" You You asked. "Counts as paid work."

"I can, but…" Nie Zheng paled at the horde. "This quantity…"

"Sealing risks new Grievous Spirit Forest," he added.

"Alternatives?"

"Total soul scattering." Nie Zheng looked pained. "No reincarnation." These souls endured horrific lives—eternal oblivion felt crueler.

You You turned to Yuan Qi. "Yuan Papa?"

"Formations are my expertise, not souls." The ancient being’s gaze shifted to the phoenix egg. "But his kind…"

"Feng Rong?!" You You followed his look.

"Phoenixes govern rebirth cycles," Yuan Qi nodded. "He could guide them…if awakened with Soul Breath."

"Soul Breath? Got it!" You You produced the rainbow fruit.

Yuan Qi: "……"

Nie Zheng: "……"

Could solutions arrive any faster?!
