Chapter 139: Lin Feng’s Anomaly

Shui Yan instinctively moved to help Lin Feng up, but Feng Rong barked, “Stay back!”

She froze.

“Feng Rong…” You You began when her guardian beasts bag twitched. Before she could react, the sleeping Wen Ze burst out, growing large instantly. His eyes burned crimson as he recklessly charged toward Lin Feng.

“Little monster!” You You reached out too late. Feng Rong flashed onto the stage, intercepting Wen Ze’s lunge and seizing the beast’s head.

“Enough!” Feng Rong growled.

Wen Ze thrashed wildly, his flame-like mane whipping the air. The normally timid creature had become a frenzied beast, roaring and straining toward Lin Feng with mindless rage.

“Little monster!” The disciples gaped, never having seen Wen Ze so unhinged.

Feng Rong forced the enlarging beast down, suppressing its chaotic energy. He pointed at Shui Yan and others. “You few stay. Everyone else—leave this floating peak. Now!”

The disciples hesitated until You You ordered, “Go!” They fled on swords, leaving only the chosen few in the emptied training grounds.

“What’s wrong?” You You demanded, eyeing Lin Feng sprawled on the ground.

“Bait.” Feng Rong knocked Wen Ze unconscious. “He’s been implanted with Ancient Times bait.”

Blank stares met his words.

“Primordial beast-maddening toxin.” Feng Rong’s jaw tightened. “Mature bait emits a beast-only scent. Any monster that smells it goes berserk.”

Lin Feng blanched.

“Can we remove it?” You You pressed.

“Impossible once matured. Worse—” Feng Rong gestured at the others, “Close contact spreads it. Their infections are nearly ripe.”

Shock rippled through the group. You You noticed the chosen—Liu Qing, Yin Fan, hunting Team brothers, and Shui Yan who’d just dueled Lin Feng—all regular companions.

“How long does it last? Can we quarantine them?”

“Too late.” Feng Rong grimaced. “Zhen Yan Sect’s altitude spread the scent beyond our borders already.”

Bestial roars thundered below. The darkening sky revealed swarming winged monsters—a massive beast wave assaulting the sect.

“You You!” Yuan Papa arrived urgently. “A beast wave approaches! I sensed—” He spotted Lin Feng and choked. “Bait? How…?”

You You scanned the floating peak’s base—tidal waves of monsters converging, including crimson-eyed eighth and ninth tiers.

“Yuan Papa—activate the protective mountain formation! Ling Qi—seal the mountain gate! No one leaves!”

Ling Qi shot toward the gates as golden light enveloped the sect in defensive layers.

“The formation can’t hold a month-long siege.” Feng Rong watched the rabid horde. “Bait drives them until death.”

“Evacuate lower-tier Disciples through the teleportation array,” You You decided.

“Let me go!” Lin Feng knelt desperately. “This is my fault! Send me out—the beasts follow the bait!”

Shui Yan and others knelt too. “We’re infected, Sect Master. Let us protect the Sect!”

Lin Feng’s guilt-ridden gaze couldn’t refuse their solidarity.

“Bullshit!” You You snapped.
