Chapter 148
byChapter 148: Blind Foolishness Is Actually Myself
“Damn you!”
“Is it you? Is it really you!?”
“You ruined my plan, destroyed everything I’d achieved, leaving me trapped!”
“I’ll…”
“make you regret this!”
“Buzz——!”
Ralekin stared at the towering spine arching from the Sea of Ether, taking in the long, streamlined divine form.
He finally “realized” the creature’s identity.
“He’s one of the Ether Dragons!”
“Not some half-formed etheric serpent or worm!”
“A true Ether Dragon!”
“No wonder… no wonder!”
“This defeat was no accident!”
Frustration and helplessness washed over Ralekin; it felt like stepping out briefly only to return and find his home trashed by some stray mad dog.
A disaster out of nowhere!
“True Ether Dragons rank above ordinary Etheric Dragons!”
“They started as etheric worms or serpents, surviving countless brutal cultivation trials to become true powerhouses!”
Ether Dragons claw their way up from the lowest forms—their divine bodies formidable, magic overwhelming, senses razor-sharp!
They reign unchallenged in the Sea of Ether.
Thankfully, they’re scarce and constantly feuding; otherwise, the Sea would’ve fallen to them, not the Chaos Demon God.
“To them, even fellow etheric serpents and worms are just resources to consume.”
“Endless battles and slaughter left them deranged—volatile tyrants prone to sudden madness!”
“Seems I’ve drawn a powerful lunatic’s attention!”
“Such rotten luck!”
“But…”
Ralekin narrowed his eyes.
“His magic concentration is high—Core Councilor Level—yet its resonance feels… simplistic!”
“That means one thing: you barely know any real magic!”
“Strategic forbidden curses? Single-target Deity-Slaying spells? You’re clueless!”
As this dawned on him, Ralekin suddenly cheered up.
“Hahahaha!”
“What a foolish fellow!”
“He is probably the dumbest among the Ether Dragons!”
“Blindly foolish to the extreme!”
Although someone who had barely risen to power through the conflicts among big shots had no right to mock a strong being who had come through countless brutal trials, still…
“Hahaha!”
“I just want to laugh!”
“I can’t believe I’ve met such an Ether Dragon!”
As a high-ranking chaos councilor, Ralekin had seen Ether Dragons before.
From long battles, they had formed very different “divine styles”; some looked like giant snakes, while others were fat and round. But all Ether Dragons shared one thing—they had great magic power!
They were so strong that even in etheric liquid, they could easily use strategic-level magic!
“No matter what deity it is, whether it’s the Ether Dragons, the Chaos Demon God, or the Outer Gods from the Void, they all put magic practice first in their training!”
“Strong magic gives us more ways to defend and attack!”
“Even those dumb Star-Eater Plutonium Dragons have built tough magical defenses.”
“But since they can’t use much magic, unless they are one of the ‘Three Kings’ among them, these guys don’t get much edge in most fights!”
“So…”
Ralekin started to move the “bone membrane” made from his divine bones.
“Whoosh… Whoosh… Whoosh…”
The divine bone membrane spread out, showing colorful “skin” and scary “eyes of the deity”!
A strong magic wave shot from these “eyes of the deity,” kicking up a “magical wind” that stunned all creatures.
“Whoosh—!”
The wind blew over the Sea of Ether, carrying huge pressure and awful divine might, making ripples on the etheric liquid.
“Watch now!”
“The dance from the void!”
“The call from death!”
“Any god caught in my traps will fall into panic and can’t break free!”
“The keener your ‘eyes of the deity,’ the easier my magic catches you!”
“And you Ether Dragons are famous for your sharp ‘eyes of the deity’!”
“Low position beings will go mad right away, their Souls sealed for a time, turning into bodies lost in dreams, ready for me to kill!”
“Stronger beings can hold out with will, but they’ll still take heavy mind hits!”
“Hahaha…”
“Come on!”
“You’ll be pulled in for sure!”
Trilobite was indeed intrigued by Ralekin’s behavior.
But not for the reasons Ralekin imagined.
"Splash—!"
His massive head emerged from the water as he tilted it sideways, observing the creature rhythmically flaring its wings.
"This time’s opponent—no, prey—turned out to be this fellow."
"Though, this one’s rather oversized!"
"And… the timeline feels slightly off…"
"Taxonomically speaking, this creature should be… uh…"
"Anyway, it’s likely the first ‘non-fish vertebrate’ I’ve encountered."
Though Trilobite’s calcite compound eyes offered poor resolution, he could still make out creatures over a meter long clearly.
"Is this… a Coelurosaur?"
Coelurosaurs were primitive reptiles from the late Permian, ancient diapsids measuring around forty centimeters in length.
Yet this specimen was far larger—with its lengthy tail, it likely reached 1.3 meters.
Beyond size, the creature wasn’t particularly sanity-draining.
Unlike echinoderms or insects, it resembled a standard, well-proportioned lizard.
Except ordinary lizards lacked its extended ribs or dermal bones supporting expansive membranes along its flanks and back.
Had those bony structures grown solely dorsally, the Coelurosaur might truly resemble a Western dragon!
Evidently, vertebrates too attempted to freeload wings—not just insects.
But this makeshift approach proved flawed.
Later gliding lizards followed similar paths, yet neither elongated ribs nor dermal bones could anchor the muscles required for wingbeats.
Flightless by nature, such membrane-winged reptiles merely glided through forests—a far cry from true flight.
Beyond gliding, however, these membranes served other purposes.
For instance…
"Is this meant to intimidate?!"
Trilobite studied the eye-like patterns on the membrane, pondering.
"Hmm, those eyespots are impressively large and menacing."
"Staring straight at them does evoke a lurking predator’s gaze."
"Enough to fray one’s nerves."
"Urk…"
Somehow, watching the membrane flare and fold unsettled Trilobite.
"Like some horror winking at me."
"My head’s spinning."
"But…"
That was the extent of it.
"An ordinary creature might’ve been cowed by such theatrics."
"I am no ordinary creature!"
"Haa…"
Trilobite slowly submerged back into the water.
