Chapter 149
byChapter 149: I! Am About to Slay This Dragon!
“Hahaha…”
“This fellow truly had low magical resistance and had retreated!”
“Excellent! Excellent!”
“At this rate, I would be able to…”
Ralekin stared at his Divine Body. Though he preferred soaring through the void over battling in the Sea of Ether, he was far from powerless. If this bizarre, foolish “Ether Dragon” had truly been reduced to a mindless husk by his quasi-strategic mental assault spell—incapable of even basic resistance—then no matter its size or adaptation to the Sea of Ether, it would be helpless against him!
And now, the “Ether Dragon” clearly feared him.
It was retreating into its cave beneath the “Primal Mud.”
“Hahaha…”
“Trying to flee!?”
“No escape!”
“My magic travels through ‘light-medium’—its penetration is unmatched!”
“The senses of Ether Dragons—sight, hearing, smell—cannot evade it!”
“Your fate is singular: helplessly surrender and let me reap you!”
“Yes! Only this end awaits you!”
In truth, Ralekin’s bravado was less confidence and more self-hypnosis—pumping himself up for what came next.
With Valaharl lost,
his invested resources and shards of divine rank wasted, and his “reliable” mercenaries dead, only one path remained to salvage his standing in the Chaos Council: kill the architect of this disaster.
Slay the dragon!
While core councilors, especially high-ranking ones, possessed unique skills, felling a true “Ether Dragon”—overcoming those relentless hell-forged titans—was a feat few could claim. By any means necessary, achieving this would crown him chaos’s champion. Only by presenting the dragon’s colossal head as a trophy could Ralekin declare to his exacting peers: *I executed the mastermind. The “Bubble World” Valaharl will be reclaimed. All is under control.*
Only dragon-slaying could spare him their mockery. Only this could preserve his status!
“No!”
“With such a feat—butchering an Ether Dragon—I might even ascend further!”
“Though ordinarily beyond my capability,”
“fortune favored me with this spell-weak, blind fool.”
“How has it survived this long?” Ralekin marveled inwardly.
His confidence swelled, yet he never stopped casting—instead accelerating the spellwork.
Patterns on his gliding wing-membranes blazed vivid, reflecting the void’s faint light into eerie, shifting rays.
Ralekin still feared his sudden spell-surge might jolt the creature awake, sending it fleeing.
But that fellow did not do so.
He did not escape back into the cave beneath the Primal Mud. Instead, he slowly floated up again, stopping not far below the boundary between the Sea of Ether and the void.
Then, he remained still.
It was as if he had completely given up on resistance.
At this moment, the magic had fully locked onto the doomed Ether Dragon.
“It looks like you’re finished!”
“How pathetic! Is your magical resistance so low that even your Soul consciousness burned into mush?”
“You pitiful, foolish creature!”
“Now, I shall grant you final mercy and end your suffering!”
Ralekin kept stretching the sacred membranes beneath his divine ribs, but his body gradually descended, and his forelimbs withdrew from the Fantasy Tree of Subspace.
“Now, prepare…”
“Three, two, one!”
He thrust with his hind legs, ready to plunge violently into the Sea of Ether!
There, he would shred that blind, witless being to pieces with his Sharp Teeth and savage Bite!
But then…
“Boom—!”
“Splash—!”
The Sea of Ether suddenly boiled!
—-
“I must say, the Coelurosaur’s trick works well.”
“Watching it makes me dizzy.”
Trilobite stared at the eye spots on the membranes, feeling his dizziness intensify.
But he couldn’t look away.
He was about to burst from the water like a crocodile to snatch the Coelurosaur perched too close to a branch above the “surface”—he had to keep his target locked.
“Still, I can bear it for now.”
“Luckily, my eyes’ low resolution only shows swirling Color Blocks.”
“If I saw details, my head might spin worse.”
“Then I’d have to call off the hunt!”
“Now…”
Trilobite drifted upward near the “surface” and gently halted, motionless as floating wood.
Yet his tail slowly coiled, gathering tremendous force.
“Three, two, one—!”
Actually, Trilobite had some doubts about this hunt.
Leaping so suddenly and high from the water was his first attempt, leaving him less than confident.
He’d planned to shout "Thieving Son!" while bursting through the "surface" at his target.
But then…
"Huh?"
"This fool’s insane!?"
"What madness is this?"
He saw the Coelurosaur actively leaping toward the "water"—as if embracing its own doom.
"I haven’t even taunted you! Why dive down?"
Were this a comedy skit, the Coelurosaur might retort: "Makes your aim seem sharper, doesn’t it?"
Alas, they weren’t performing partners.
So Trilobite spared no thought for comedic timing, simply widening his giant jaws.
Then…
"Boom—!"
"Splash—!"
Muscles along his tail and flank coiled violently. The Tiktaalik Fish exploded from the water, jaws agape like a crocodile’s, and clamped down on the Coelurosaur hurtling straight into his maw!
Only then did the "Coelurosaur" grasp his peril!
"What—!?"
"No—!"
"Agh—!"
Ralekin couldn’t comprehend it.
Why his target remained unaffected—why his potent spiritual magic failed against it.
Why its colossal frame moved with such terrifying agility.
And…
No more thoughts followed!
His mind blanked, replaced by an abyssal maw filled with glinting fangs!
"Save m—!"
"Crunch—!"
The giant jaws snapped shut!
The massive, bizarre "Ether Dragon" sank its serrated teeth into Ralekin’s flesh, locking him in a death grip.
A brutal bite!
"Crack—!"
Bones shattered!
"Splash—!"
Water erupted skyward!
And just like that, Ralekin was dragged beneath the waves!
