Chapter 161: A Sudden Incident

"That Feng Rong…" She felt something wasn’t quite right, withdrawing her hand holding the oranges. After some hesitation, she decided to clarify, "I think… do we have different understandings about Establishing a Contract? What you said earlier…"

"You refuse?!" Feng Rong’s eyes widened dramatically, his face showing utter shock at her apparent change of heart.

"No… I’m not backing out!" she hurriedly explained. "It’s just… your earlier words…" They made her feel strangely uneasy.

"What’s wrong with my words?" Feng Rong bristled instantly, jabbing an angry finger at Yuan Qi. "You established one with him! Why do you keep rejecting me?"

Yuan Qi halted mid-step, his previously solemn expression melting into a gentle smile. "You You, Establishing a Contract is indeed significant. If you’re uncertain, perhaps… we should postpone this?"

"Bullshit!" Feng Rong exploded, whirling on Yuan Qi. "You ruined it last time too! We would’ve succeeded if not for you!"

"Friend Feng misunderstands." Yuan Qi maintained his calm demeanor. "I merely spoke truthfully. No ulterior motives."

"Convenient words! Wasn’t that shapeshifting incident your doing?"

"An unfortunate accident."

"Accident my ass! Why don’t you ‘accidentally’ show me then?"

"Unlike Feng Clan members, I don’t require assistance to hatch."

"Want to fight?!"

"If you insist."

"Stop!" You You cut in before they could clash. "We’ll establish it now! Right now, okay?"

She shot Yuan Qi a questioning look. What’s gotten into Yuan Papa today? Why’s he provoking Feng Rong?

Yuan Qi’s eyes darkened briefly. Seeing her resolve, his hand clenched momentarily before relaxing.

Without further delay, You You pressed her finger to Feng Rong’s forehead, activating the Transfer of Power skill.

"Stay put. I’ll fetch oranges!"

Power surged through her body, channeling into Feng Rong with startling intensity – far stronger than when she’d contracted Yuan Qi. It felt like her entire being was being drained through an open floodgate.

This was… too much!

Panicking, she tried withdrawing her hand but couldn’t break contact. Unfamiliar agony lanced through her skull as her vision blurred.

"You You!" Feng Rong’s joyous expression shattered. "Stop this!"

Yuan Qi’s face turned grim. "Release it now!"

Both lunged to sever the connection.

You You choked, blood spraying from her lips before darkness swallowed her consciousness, two frantic voices echoing in her ears.

"You You!"

"You You!"

————————

She awoke in her Zhen Yan Sect quarters, body aching like she’d run a marathon. A slight hand movement triggered an eager response.

"You You!" Feng Rong’s bloodshot eyes filled her vision, his grip tightening on her palm. "Finally awake! How do you feel?"

"Feng Rong?" Memories trickled back. "Did I… faint?"

"Three days!" He scrutinized her anxiously. "Any pain?" Before she could answer, he pressed his forehead to hers. "Let me check with divine sense."

A warm mark glowed between them as energy swept through her meridians.

His striking features inches away made her flush. She nudged him back. "I’m fine! Just sore."

The door creaked open. Yuan Qi entered bearing a bowl, relief washing over him. "You You! You’re awake!"

After setting down the medicine, he checked her pulse, frown deepening. "Did you sense anything unusual before collapsing?"

"Nothing." She shook her head. "Why did I faint? Contracting went smoothly before."

Yuan Qi glanced at Feng Rong. "Perhaps two Divine Clan Contracts overwhelm a celestial maiden."

Feng Rong hung his head uncharacteristically quiet, resembling a drenched fledgling.

"Maybe fighting Qiu Yao drained me?" You You suggested hastily. "Besides, it worked!" She indicated the Contract mark on Feng Rong’s brow.

"Perhaps." Yuan Qi retrieved the medicine, stirring it gently. "This will restore your vitality. Bitter, but effective." He offered a spoonful.

"Got it!" She seized the bowl, downing it in one go. "Not bad actually!"

Yuan Qi stared at his empty spoon: "…"

Guilt-ridden Feng Rong: "…"

Since when were celestial maidens this… self-sufficient?
