Chapter 328: The Start of the Village Chief’s Journey (Part Two)

Entering the West Sea is no easy feat.

These four words not only refer to the West Sea Spiritual Realm but also to the fact that as the foremost immortal sect of the Mountain-Sea Realm, countless cultivators aspire to join the West Sea Sect, yet only a handful succeed.

Wang Chen possesses neither a powerful background nor extraordinary talent, and he is merely a Loose Cultivator of unknown origin.

He spent thirty thousand spirit stones to secure an opportunity for the entry assessment, which, to be honest, was not a bad deal.

However, more often than not, an opportunity does not guarantee a favorable outcome.

It might very well be a pitfall!

Having served as the village chief of Datian Village for five days now, Wang Chen has come to realize that truly integrating into this community is an arduous task.

Whenever Wang Chen appears in the village, every villager greets him with respect.

Yet, the underlying sense of rejection is unmistakable.

Moreover, he has noticed that the villagers do not hold much reverence for him as a Purple Palace cultivator.

Even though Wang Chen is the village chief and the only esteemed figure in the village, this lack of respect is rather peculiar.

It is natural for villagers to resist outsiders taking on official roles, but in a world of cultivation where strength reigns supreme, it is perplexing that a distinguished Purple Palace cultivator in a remote village does not receive the respect he deserves.

Additionally, Wang Chen has found that since assuming office, he has had little to do.

The villagers seem entirely indifferent to the change in leadership, and no one has approached Wang Chen for assistance, to air grievances, or to seek help.

They continue their daily routines, year after year, living their lives as they always have.

Chen Anhe visits the village chief’s residence daily to pay his respects.

However, Wang Chen suspects that this old man is more interested in observing his struggles than in offering genuine support.

The greatest challenge Wang Chen faces is his inability to truly settle in, as if he is being kept at arm’s length!

In his study, seated at his desk, Wang Chen peruses the hefty volume of "Datian Zhi."

"Datian Zhi" is essentially the chronicle of village affairs, documenting significant events since the village’s founding.

During his three-year tenure as village chief, Wang Chen is expected to contribute to the ongoing records of "Datian Zhi."

But before he can do so, he needs to gain a deeper understanding of Datian Village.

"My lord, please have some tea."

The charming maid, Little He, carefully placed a steaming teacup on the desk.

The emerald-green tea was brewed to perfection, and the aroma of spiritual tea filled the air.

Wang Chen picked up the teacup and took a sip.

"My lord."

Little He presented an invitation, "This is from Lord Huang of the village, delivered by someone who is still waiting outside."

"Lord Huang?"

Wang Chen set down the teacup and took the invitation to open it.

The Huang family is one of the three major clans in Datian Village, with over ninety percent of the villagers belonging to these three clans. According to Wang Chen, the esteemed Lord Huang Deqi is the head of the Huang family.

He can be considered a country gentleman.

The invitation contains simple content: Lord Huang Deqi is hosting a banquet at his home in the evening to welcome Wang Chen and show his hospitality.

The wording is quite polite.

But something feels off.

It’s simple; as the new village chief who has been in Datian Village for five days, it is unlikely that Lord Huang has only just come to his senses and invited him to meet. It cannot be due to a lack of information.

Moreover, Wang Chen, being a Purple Palace cultivator, finds it quite significant that the other party has only sent someone to deliver the invitation instead of coming personally.

Who would dare act this way without some backing?

Wang Chen thoughtfully stroked his chin and said, "Pass along my message; I will arrive on time tonight."

"Yes."

Little He went out to respond to the person sent by Lord Huang.

When she returned to the study without saying a word, Wang Chen asked, "Little He, how old are you this year?"

A faint blush appeared on Little He’s delicate face as she shyly answered, "I just turned fifteen."

Fifteen years old, huh.

Wang Chen’s gaze flickered, "How long have you been stuck at Transcendence?"

With his current cultivation level, he easily saw that Little He had reached the peak of Transcendence, just one step away from shedding her mortal body and establishing her foundation to become a true cultivator.

However, countless individuals remain stuck at this stage for their entire lives, unable to cross the threshold.

Little He pressed her lips together, whispering, "Two years."

Under normal circumstances, the longer one is stuck at Transcendence, the lower the chances of breaking through to Qi Training become.

Although Little He is young, not having progressed to Qi Training after two years makes her future in cultivation quite bleak.

Perhaps this is why Chen Anhe sent her to Wang Chen as a maid!

Wang Chen asked again, "Have you taken any Foundation Establishment Pills?"

Transcending and solidifying one’s foundation, the Foundation Establishment Pill is meant to help break through bottlenecks.

Both foundational cultivators and innate martial artists can use the Foundation Establishment Pill to ascend to greatness!

It’s similar to the spirit pill, but the value of the two cannot be compared.

Little He shook her head, her eyes reddening.

Wang Chen understood immediately.

Foundation Establishment Pills are not expensive, but the fact that she hasn’t taken one in two years indicates she likely does not receive much favor at home.

After thinking for a moment, Wang Chen took out a white jade bottle from his storage bag.

"Inside are two Foundation Establishment Pills; they are for you."

Since crossing over, Wang Chen has defeated numerous cultivators and collected a large amount of spoils.

Most of the things he sold for spirit stones to acquire the resources he needed for his own cultivation.

Some items, however, he decided to keep.

This bottle of Foundation Establishment Pills is one of them, and he can hardly remember where it came from.

"Ah?"

Little He was immediately dumbfounded, unable to believe her ears. "M-Master, you, you…"

She stuttered, at a loss, and did not dare to take the Foundation Establishment Pill Wang Chen offered.

Wang Chen shook his head, took her small hand, and placed the medicine bottle into her palm.

He noticed her hands were a bit rough, clearly from years of hard work.

Little He’s ears turned bright red!

Wang Chen released her hand and smiled, "It’s not a precious thing; it does me no good to keep it. You should take it and prepare well. Only by breaking through to Qi Training can you learn spells and serve me better."

Although their time together has not been long, he can tell that this young lady has a pure character and is even a bit timid.

Since she will be following him as a maid, Wang Chen does not mind investing a little to nurture her.

This is to secure her loyalty.

Little He immediately knelt down, "I am willing to serve you for life!"

Two Foundation Establishment Pills; her closest parents have never treated her this well!

In truth, she had a chance to obtain Foundation Establishment Pills earlier, but her parents gave theirs to someone else.

Thinking back to the past, Little He felt tears welling up in her eyes.

Wang Chen reached out to help her up, "I don’t need you to serve me for life; just work diligently from now on."

Little He nodded vigorously.

"Let’s go."

Wang Chen said, "We will take a trip to the county town to get you a new outfit."

A dignified Purple Palace maid wearing coarse clothing, without even a piece of jewelry, how shabby!

She must change!

As for Lord Huang Deqi’s invitation, they will definitely go.

Even if it is a dragon’s den or tiger’s lair, Wang Chen will not shy away!
