Chapter 482: Destiny

Xie Peng finally got the first-place prize, but he wasn’t as happy as he thought he’d be.

He had imagined many scenarios, and using that special technique was just to scare them a bit.

If it came down to it, he would’ve dropped the technique and faced them head-on with a proper method.

But things had taken an unexpected turn.

What did "I repay Ling Tai for you" mean? Friend Lingtai didn’t owe him anything!

At that moment, Xie Peng suddenly remembered what Xu Lingtai had said before using his illusionary technique during their spar at Qianling Sect.

Thinking about it, Xie Peng shook his head.

“No way, it was just a spar. There’s no deep grudge here. Who would use such a technique?”

Xie Peng tried to convince himself, but deep down, he still felt a little off.

…………

At the natural passage between the two realms near Heavenly Refining Fairy City, Ye Xiaoyao stepped out, looking worn out but with a spark of excitement in his eyes.

“Old Sword, the loot we got this time is enough to trade for two Spiritual Swords in Heavenly Refining Fairy City,” Ye Xiaoyao said eagerly.

“Stay calm. The journey ahead is still long,” Old Sword replied softly in Ye Xiaoyao’s mind.

Once someone who didn’t care much for celestial tools, Old Sword now felt a flicker of excitement over this kid getting a couple of Spiritual Swords.

“I know, but it’s a good start, right?” Ye Xiaoyao said as he boarded the spiritual boat back to the fairy city.

In the task hall of Heavenly Refining Fairy City,

Ye Xiaoyao handed over the required spirit ore and spirit objects for his mission, earning a huge pile of contribution points.

He then walked into the exchange hall next door.

“Fire Flame Spiritual Sword, Vibrating Gold Spiritual Sword.”

Ye Xiaoyao spent all his points to get two basic Five Elements Spiritual Swords.

“Finally, I’ve got all five Spiritual Swords!” Ye Xiaoyao said, looking at the five floating swords around him with a mix of pride and a touch of sadness.

“With the Void Refinement stage and the Minor Five Elements Killing Sword Formation, I can easily take down Core Formation stage beast races.”

“But this is just the beginning. Later, there’s the Major Five Elements Killing Formation, the Yin and Yang Five Elements Killing Formation, and the Void Five Elements Killing Formation.”

“Once you’ve got the Spiritual Swords and mastered these formations, you’ll be able to hunt regular beast kings after reaching the Core Formation stage,” Old Sword explained in Ye Xiaoyao’s mind.

“Why is everything tied to the Five Elements?” Ye Xiaoyao asked, puzzled.

“Because there’s no time for you to gather Spiritual Swords of other attributes,” Old Sword sighed in his thoughts.

“Sometimes I wonder why someone with your destiny hasn’t had more big opportunities. Gathering a dozen Spiritual Swords shouldn’t be this hard.”

“Your current situation doesn’t match your destiny. Could someone be stealing your chances?”

Old Sword kept muttering in Ye Xiaoyao’s mind.

“How many times are you going to say that?”

“I’m doing just fine!” Ye Xiaoyao replied casually.

"You think you’re doing well? With me, the Heavenly Emperor, guiding you, you’ve ended up like this."

"You failed to build a force."

"You couldn’t even deceive anyone."

"I even revealed those peerless techniques, yet you still didn’t succeed."

"Are you really going to rely solely on yourself for your whole life?" Old Sword lamented in Ye Xiaoyao’s mind.

"What’s wrong with relying on myself? I have food and drink," Ye Xiaoyao replied while gazing at the five Spiritual Swords, handling Old Sword’s complaints as part of his daily routine.

"Forget it; let’s take it step by step," Old Sword finally said helplessly.

Just then, a young girl walked past Ye Xiaoyao.

A gentle fragrance wafted through the air, and Ye Xiaoyao slightly squinted his eyes, admiring the graceful lines of her figure as she walked away.

Though he wasn’t a lecherous old man, he was a normal man, after all.

"The little princess of Tianlian Gate; this is an opportunity. Are you going for it?" Old Sword urged him in his heart.

"Forget it; she’s out of my league," Ye Xiaoyao shook his head, retrieving his gaze. He had that much self-awareness.

"Is that girl beautiful?"

"Does she smell good?"

"Do you like her? Would you want her as your cultivation partner?" Old Sword posed the soul-searching questions to Ye Xiaoyao.

"You don’t need to answer; the desires in your heart already responded for you."

"A real man born in this world should cultivate the strongest path and marry the most beautiful woman."

"The joining of the two of you is your opportunity, as well as Tianlian Gate’s chance," Old Sword said in Ye Xiaoyao’s heart.

"No matter how much you say, it’s useless. She probably wouldn’t look at me; no amount of your effort will change that," Ye Xiaoyao replied lightly, already accustomed to Old Sword’s absurd plans that popped up every few days.

"Who says she wouldn’t look at you? I…"

"I have a way; I have a technique that can help you~" Old Sword didn’t finish when Ye Xiaoyao interrupted.

"I’ll choose a different word next time," Old Sword huffed in Ye Xiaoyao’s heart.

"Honestly, I think this is fine right now. Let’s just complete tasks and exchange points for Spiritual Swords."

"Although it may take some time, it’s a good way to refine my cultivation and sword formations." Ye Xiaoyao strolled through the fairy city, chatting with Old Sword in his heart.

"Sigh, you’re like a useless lump," Old Sword sighed again, not even remembering how many times he had done so.

"After resting for three days, I’ll take on a few more tasks and see if there’s anything good in the demon race," Old Sword suggested.

"Got it," Ye Xiaoyao replied.

At night, in the courtyard Ye Xiaoyao rented.

Ye Xiaoyao sipped his drink, gazing at the starry sky.

"Old Sword, if only Xiangzhou hadn’t been invaded by the beast race."

"If Que Tian Gate were still standing, many friends would still be around."

"Back then, my cultivation had improved, and I wanted to find that woman who broke off our engagement to show her that she was the real waste."

"Thinking back to those times, it feels like everything has changed now," Ye Xiaoyao said, reflecting.

"What’s there to cling to? Only your peerless junior brother Xu Fan is worth a mention."

"Too bad I haven’t found him yet; otherwise, would you still be lacking Spiritual Swords?" Old Sword shouted in Ye Xiaoyao’s mind.

"Old Sword, you’re so focused on gain; didn’t you have any close friends during your low cultivation times?" Ye Xiaoyao asked curiously.

"I did, but after being stabbed with a knife, I just wanted to become the strongest in the world; for that, everyone is fair game to use," Old Sword replied lightly in Ye Xiaoyao’s mind.

"I feel you’re very lonely; I am too," Ye Xiaoyao said, finishing his drink as he looked at the expanse of stars, a hint of loneliness and sorrow in his eyes.

"You are lonely, but think about it; your greatest enemy in the future will make it all feel lighter," Old Sword chuckled in Ye Xiaoyao’s heart.

"That’s just your greatest enemy; it has nothing to do with me," Ye Xiaoyao retorted, feeling it was absurd to think he had drawn the attention of such legendary figures without doing much.

"Since I entered your body, your destiny has already changed."
