Chapter 488
byChapter 488: Corrupting Presence
"What’s going on?" Surena’s voice suddenly softened after hearing Dunn’s words. "I didn’t hear anything."
Not only Surena, but Jesse also didn’t hear anything, only the mysterious sound of water occasionally coming from the depths of the cold marsh. Molofeel also looked towards the mist-covered valley where Dunn was looking, her eyes showing uncertainty.
The Felhound excitedly continued towards the depths, circling around the Wyrmkin’s body. The female dwarf Wallis immediately shouted in Demonic, "Stop!"
The demon immediately stopped but still looked inside with lingering interest.
As the sky darkened, everything in the swamp, already dim, became even more murky.
"Shh," Dunn warned Wallis, "You need to be quieter, dwarf."
"So, is it a magical treasure, or a demon’s body?" Jesse asked in a low voice.
"There’s only one magic wand here," Aubergine took the magic wand from Dunn and said, "The Eredar demon’s body hasn’t been found, and I don’t believe that an Eredarmage would only have this one magic wand."
"Listen carefully inside," Dunn said to the others, "Let’s not discuss for now, be silent for a while and listen to what it is exactly."
The group fell silent for a while, and then Hubert nodded, saying, "I also heard it, it is…"
"The sound of chewing."
Jesse also heard it, and he felt like there was a wild animal gnawing on something inside.
"I think we should leave," Erlan looked at Aubergine and said, "This Wyrmkin outside might be some kind of guard, watching over the monsters inside…"
"The evil god of the trolls?" Surena asked.
"That’s impossible," Wallis said.
"Whatever it is…" Aubergine hesitated for a moment but nodded, then looked at the others and said, "I am content with this magic wand. You know, Dalaran always pays a high price for demonic magic wands."
"You could also sell it to the goblins in Booty Bay or the elves in Quel’Thalas," Erlan added, "We don’t need to take any more risks by going in."
Dunn hesitated, glanced at the deep valley, then nodded, "Should we retreat then?"
Jesse took a step back, his boots dragging in the muddy ground, the sound of water passing by. When his footsteps stopped, the squelching sound behind him, like rotten mud being pushed aside, did not cease.
He turned his head and was surprised to see a small mushroom growing rapidly behind his heel, pushing its way out of the muddy swamp.
"Mushroom…" he murmured quietly.
"What mushroom?" Hubert, who was closest to him, turned around and glanced at the mushroom under Jesse’s foot, but quickly looked upwards.
Jesse noticed his gaze and looked in the same direction.
In the forest behind them, many mushrooms of various sizes had grown, covering the trees and ground, spreading wildly.
These mushrooms all emitted a strong dark power, and from the faint yellow mist surrounding them, they might even be naturally toxic!
The mushroom, Green Dragon, reminded Jesse of a very ominous name.
In the game, the corrupted Green Dragon, Elise, was one of the most powerful in Queen Eirila’s Green Dragon legion, and her most notable feature was spreading this highly toxic corrupt fungus wherever she walked.
But how could Elise be here? She wasn’t sent to the temple of Ata’Hakkar to stop the evil ritual.
But it doesn’t matter anymore, if it’s not EmoLise… it must be related to her!
"Leave this place."
He was about to tell everyone to leave when he saw a strange glowing mushroom growing next to Aubergine, and Jesse immediately warned, "Get away! Get away, Aubergine!"
The mage heard Jesse’s warning and suddenly disappeared in a flash of light. The glowing mushroom then exploded, releasing a large cloud of dark yellow poisonous mist. Luckily, Aubergine had already moved about a dozen yards away, with a look of panic on her face.
"Leave this! Run now!"
Jesse shouted, and everyone quickly turned and ran into the forest. The mushrooms were multiplying rapidly, blocking the river and the path. Just then, Jesse saw a creepy black figure gradually materializing from a deep trench.
A round thing suddenly flew out from the darkness and rolled to Erlan’s feet.
It was a skull, with a bone plate on the forehead, an Eredar’s skull!
"Delicious… Delicious is here…" a heavy, elderly voice roared, "There’s… more… demons."
Everyone rushed into the deep forest, forgetting all the tiredness from the journey. Surprisingly, Wallis, the one with the shortest legs, ran the fastest, shouting her Felhound’s name uncontrollably while running like crazy ahead, even Dunn, who had long agile legs, couldn’t catch up with her.
Jesse dared not look back anymore, carrying Saenor’s bag, avoiding toxic mist mushrooms and glowing mushrooms that were about to explode. He tried to run as fast as possible on the dry ground, unable to focus on using Detect Demon to locate Molofeel, but he could still feel the connection of Soul Link, sensing that she was probably running faster than him.
Now was the crucial moment to truly unleash years of practicing long-distance running and the mysterious power of the black dragon’s blood!
Dodging a mushroom spraying toxic mist from a hole, he had to put on a mask, making breathing extremely difficult. He heard the sound of trees breaking behind him, and now Jesse could hear the loud footsteps approaching from behind.
Are those footsteps from a full-grown dragon?!
"Ghost! Run!" Erlan shouted hysterically from behind, and upon hearing this, Jesse felt a jolt as if he had been electrified, feeling energized all over again.
Dunn shouted, "Damn it, throw away all the food and water, keep only the most valuable loot!"
Jesse decisively unpacked his dry rations, and then he watched as Hubert nearby threw away the Felhound’s horns he was carrying but kept the Doomguard’s demon horns.
Aubergine teleported forward in a Blink Spell, and Jesse noticed he threw away all his Mana Potion bags, only carrying two magic wands and running ahead. This guy definitely seemed like he had traveled far and wide, not at all looking like a mage who stayed in a tower studying every day.
Wait…Surena…
Surena was definitely the weakest in terms of physical strength among this group of people.
Jesse tried to glance sideways and saw Erlan gradually catching up from the side. This guy was pretty fast, and it looked like he was about to catch up with Jesse.
But he didn’t have Surena with him. Suddenly, the sound of flapping wings passed by his ear. Gacresse was flying with Surena in her arms from one tree trunk to another, moving so quickly that they overtook him and Erlan, reaching Aubergine’s side.
Gacresse was really strong. Even when landing on the ground, she could keep up with Aubergine’s speed while carrying Surena. Jesse suddenly understood why Surena trusted this succubus so much.
