Chapter 490: Generous Reward

After a sleepless night and a long journey, by the next morning, several people left outside Stonard were already exhausted.

Just as it seemed like rain was about to fall, Dunn and Erlan skillfully built a makeshift smelly shelter with vines and soggy branches, preventing everyone from getting drenched by the impending heavy rain.

Jesse, Surena, and Erlan were fine, but if Wallis got rained on in his current state, he might get seriously ill again.

Huddled under the shelter, Dunn stood staring in the direction of Stonard, lost in thought. Surena mumbled, "I’ve never seen a dragon before."

"Neither have I," Erlan said.

"I bet Jesse has seen one," Surena said.

"I have seen it," Jesse said, "but I have not seen the Green Dragon."

Just then, Dunn shouted a few words from afar, seeming a bit impatient. Jesse curiously asked, "Why is that guy so angry?"

"He has always been like that," Surena said.

Erlan hesitated for a moment before saying, "Dunn is out there making money to treat his eldest son’s injury. His eldest son got injured in the battle of Hillsbrad Foothills and hasn’t recovered till now."

"Wasn’t Gilneas’s military not part of the Alliance?" Surena asked.

"They were, but only a small unit joined the Alliance," Erlan said. "But that doesn’t concern his son. His son didn’t go under the name of the Gilneas troops but joined the Lordaeron military. So, now you understand, Surena, he is reluctant to ask the king or lords for money to treat his son’s injury, so he has to earn it himself."

Dunn was now walking towards the tent. Erlan whispered, "Don’t mention this to him."

Jesse and Surena nodded.

In no time, Dunn plopped down next to Erlan.

"Do you think Aubergine and Hubert ran off with that magic wand?" he complained.

"Everything else is still here with me, so what are you worried about," Erlan reassured, patting the few packages beside him.

"I shouldn’t have let him take that magic wand," Dunn said. "Everything should have stayed here for us to keep an eye on."

"In the end, Aubergine and I will have to go find a way to sell it," Erlan said.

"I know you’re a good lad, Erlan Drudgemoor," Dunn said.

With that, he glanced at Jesse, who was sulking with his lips tightly shut and licking his teeth unhappily.

"Aubergine only brings trustworthy people," Erlan said as he covered Wallis, who was fast asleep, with another cloak. "He wouldn’t accept anyone who seems suspicious. Trust his judgment of character."

Dunn took off his hat, scratched his head, and said, "As long as we can make a few coins like last time, I don’t care about the rest."

Everyone had a bit of the bread made by Aubergine. After it cooled down, Jesse could detect a faint Arcane scent in it. Could it be going bad soon?

Thankfully, not long after, the priest and Aubergine’s figures appeared in the distance marsh, both wrapped in cloaks, running through the rain, bringing with them a few bags of pastries and a small bottle of strong honey wine.

Everyone took a sip in turns, shared the pastries, and prepared to head back to Darkshire from the west.

With the current food supplies, crossing the entire Black Morass again and then traversing the Gnoll forest back to Lakeshire at the foot of Redridge would not be realistic. Also, the weather now would make hunting animals in the forest difficult.

Moreover, everyone’s packs were already full, almost filled with demon materials. Even if they encountered more bodies, they wouldn’t have the ability to carry them.

Gacresse, strong and with the ability to replenish magic at will, naturally took on the task of carrying Wallis.

A few days later, the group arrived at Deadwind Pass and took a rest by a dried-up riverbed less than a few hundred meters from the main road.

Jesse looked down into a lower valley, thinking that after returning to Stormwind, if Greed came back, he planned to come here with him to see if they could obtain some Essence of Undeath.

From this vantage point, they could see a relatively intact village ruin at the end of the view. The village was very small, with only about seven or eight houses nestled in a small mountain hollow.

It was likely not destroyed directly by the explosion from Karazhan, but rather, the environment inside Deadwind Pass became increasingly harsh after the explosion due to the contamination of shadow energy, causing all the people living here to move away.

After Duskwood on the other side of the mountain turned out like that, it’s even worse here.

To find the ghosts who died tragically under the power of darkness, you might need to continue heading south, all the way to the depths of the valley.

Just by looking at it, he already felt the deep darkness within.

Resting on this side of Deadwind Pass for a while, Wallis finally woke up, she dismissed the Felhound, kept the Eredar’s skull, Aubergine enchanted a bag to contain the evil power emanating from it.

Back in Darkshire, everyone booked a large room, where they counted the results of this expedition, including treasures looted from a burnt one and an intact Doomguard corpse, some Felcloth from demon guards, armor fragments, a demon sawtooth sword, and a somewhat intact demon helmet.

There were also several stacks of Mo’arg and Doomguard runic skins, demon horns, and a dimmed Demon Guard heart…

The more they counted, the more excited and thrilled the expressions on everyone’s faces became, all the fatigue from the days of traveling evaporated in an instant.

Erlan did a quick calculation and said, "Even if we don’t count Aubergine’s magic wand from the Eredar, and that Eredar demon’s skull, if we divide the loot among us, we’ll each get at least 8 gold coins, with the addition of that sword, Wallis and Dunn can have 10 gold coins…"

"Definitely even more!" Dunn immediately exclaimed in excitement.

Aubergine said, "After we go back, Erlan and I will immediately head to Booty Bay to check the prices of these two things first, and then we’ll go to Dalaran to ask around."

"Mr. Jurke, I will give your commission separately at that time, and in the end, you should be able to get more than 14 to 15 gold coins, that is, after deducting that 4 gold coins…"

Jesse nodded and said, "Thank you, everyone."

Aubergine patted his shoulder and said, "No need to thank me, Mr. Jurke. I think you and your demon maid have far exceeded my initial expectations. You totally deserve this price. What I said before was not just being polite. I hope we can work together in the future!"

"This time, there were a lot less complete demon bodies compared to last time." Surena sighed, "Next time, if we don’t go to the south of the Blasted Lands, we probably won’t find anything."

"I will look for some other ways to make money." Aubergine said, "There will always be opportunities."
