Chapter 501
byChapter 501: The Follower
"Greed, have you noticed anything strange…?" Jesse asked.
The dwarf turned his head while walking, twitched his nose and said, "I don’t know, what are you feeling?"
The imp also looked behind them, then suddenly grabbed Jesse’s collar and whispered, "Master… master, there is indeed a spellcaster! His magic is very weak, but he is trying hard to hide it…"
"Is it an Ogremage?" Greed asked.
"No!" the imp pointed to a patch of short trees behind them and said, "Over there, over there."
"Let’s keep going," Jesse said.
The two of them entered a forest, then slowed down and hid behind a few trees.
Before long, Jesse noticed a human-shaped figure appearing in the quiet depths of the forest behind them.
That was a bald man wearing a purple cloak, and you could vaguely see an eye symbol on his cloak, this must be The Violet Eye of Kirin Tor.
Is he a member of The Violet Eye, the Karazhan investigating organization?
At that moment, the figure seemed to sense something wrong, and stopped in the distance. Greed and Jesse exchanged a glance, Jesse squinted and Greed nodded.
Greed had his warhammer in hand, and Jesse held a magic wand, as they walked out of the woods towards the figure. The figure also noticed them by now, but did not step back or make any other move, just stood there waiting for them.
"Excuse me, sir?" Jesse asked softly.
"Living Ice Crystals…they are indeed real, Living Ice Crystals!"
Suddenly, the figure shouted, with a hoarse and eerie voice, causing several black strange birds to fly away due to his sudden loud words, adding a hint of life to the otherwise lifeless eerie forest.
The mage hesitantly took a few steps forward, now Jesse could clearly see that although he still had a human appearance, his face was full of wounds, and his eyes had a corrupt yellow light of death.
"Undead!" Jesse shouted, and the mage was surrounded by a bright frost in an instant!
This is an ice shield, much stronger than when Aubergine dealt with the Orc before. The frost gathered together even emitted a shining cold light! The cold light covered the Undead Mage’s figure. Suddenly, a cold frostball shot out, but Jesse was prepared with his dark Shadow Power, a colorful film shimmering on the surface, which withstood the ice arrow.
As the ice arrow hit the shield, a black ripple spread out, shattering the weeds on the ground.
At the same time, Greed’s warhammer sparked with electricity, the bright light dispersing the ripples of Jesse’s black shield.
Seeing the mage retreat at once, the dwarf acted faster, his electric hammer striking the mage’s shield of protection with a bright beam that illuminated the dark land.
The shining ice shattered like a car window hit hard, and with that one blow, the mage’s ice shield was completely destroyed!
But when the ice fog cleared, the undead had disappeared without a trace.
After Greed recalled his hammer, he looked back and asked, "Did he run away?"
"No!" Imp called out, "He’s still nearby!"
Suddenly, a mischievous spell was heard from the side. Greed looked where the spell was chanted, and in a burst of Arcane dust, he turned into a black goat rolling on the ground, struggling to get up.
The Undead Mage mumbled something hoarsely, laughing strangely to himself. It seemed like he had lost his own consciousness and was now just attacking everything instinctively like a zombie!
Unlike the Death Knight, this undead creature had already lost its own will, so Fear had no effect on it anymore.
Just as Jesse was about to break the Polymorph spell in Greed, a Frostbolt from the mage shot towards him. Knowing that the Frostbolt couldn’t break his Shadow Shield, Jesse retaliated with a Shadow Bolt towards the shadow casting the icy power.
The Frostbolt hit the shield, and the shadowy force spread out and engulfed it. The imp held onto Jesse’s hair tightly, trying not to be swept away by various magical forces, but the icy power couldn’t break through the barrier to harm both the imp and Jesse.
Jesse watched as the Shadow Bolt flew in an arc, chasing after the mage. Eventually, it was scraped by dense branches and dissipated. It seemed to have hit an obscure magical shield. Taking advantage of this moment, Jesse quickly picked up a stone and threw it at the sheep’s face.
After a burst of Arcane mist dispersed, Greed cursed and got up, throwing the hammer directly towards the direction where the magical shield reacted. The electrically charged hammer blasted open a patch of forest.
With a sharp cry, the Undead struggled to climb up from the collapsing forest, illuminated by electric flashes. Jesse immediately cast a Curse of Weakness.
Feeling the Curse of Weakness taking effect, Jesse still couldn’t stop the Undead’s footsteps. He used a Blink Spell to escape backward, disappearing from their sight once again.
"Damn it, missed… that jerk," Greed gasped and said.
"Where is that mage?" Jesse asked by patting the imp on the head.
The imp hesitated without answering immediately. He looked around and then hesitantly said, "Everywhere…"
"What do you mean?!" Greed asked, recalling his war hammer.
Another Frostbolt shot out from the fallen tree trunks on the other side. Greed instinctively sensed the Arcane wave brought by the spell, turned around, and smashed the fragile Frostbolt with a lightning strike from his war hammer. However, it was just a decoy…
A swiftly flying ice spear shot towards Greed from another direction. Jesse shouted a warning, and Greed quickly moved aside, but the ice spear, slightly influenced by the Arcane magic, grazed the dwarf’s heavy helmet, ringing as it flew up into the sky, leaving only a frosty trail.
Greed brushed off the snow on his helmet and exclaimed, "This tricky thing!"
Standing back to back, they gazed into the dark forest. Jesse said, "This guy might be using mirror magic."
"Mirror magic?" Greed asked.
"It’s creating a shadow of oneself to trick enemies… just like the Frostbolt you just shattered," Jesse explained, scanning the forest. "I should have brought Molofeel."
"I can do it! I can do it!" Saenor jumped and said, "Just give me a little time…"
"Wait." Jesse frowned and said, "Get a Soul Shard from the bag for me."
"But you said you were going to give me one…" imp said with a sad face.
"It’s an emergency now," Jesse said, "Hurry, he’s after the Living Ice Crystals. He can’t beat us directly, but he won’t easily let us go. He’s lurking in the shadows while we’re out in the open. If we keep this up, he’ll surely find an opportunity. He’s an undead monster and never gets tired!"
"Protect me later, Greed, don’t let me be interrupted while casting spells…"
Greed turned around and asked, "What are you going to do now? You don’t even know where that mage is. Even if you summon a meteor, can you aim it accurately?"
"What do you think I’m going to do?!" Jesse immediately cast a spell, strengthening his Shadow Shield once again, and said to Greed, "Stay a bit further away from me, don’t touch the power of the shadows. I’m going to summon a Felhound."
