Chapter 505: Strange Happenings in the Alley

Jesse kept one and planned to give it to Jalane Ayrole, and he was going to take the rest to Booty Bay in Kalimdor to exchange for money with the goblins, and then split the money with Greed.

In the afternoon, when he got back to Stormwind, he didn’t waste any time. He quickly dropped off his things at home and headed straight to The Slaughtered Lamb.

As he entered the tavern, business was doing well even in winter. There were quite a few people inside. Jesse spotted the dark-skinned tavern owner serving food to customers and waved at him.

"Is Jalane Ayrole here?" Jesse asked Jarel Moor, who was approaching.

"She’s not here," Jarel replied, wiping his hands with a wet towel. "She might come later in the evening, I’m not sure."

"I got the Essence of Undeath," Jesse said. "Should I keep it in her room, or leave it here in your care?"

Jarel frowned and said, "Don’t put those ghostly things in my warehouse, Jesse. Those are meant for normal people to eat. Put it in her room or in Ursula Deline’s apothecary, whichever works."

"Okay, by the way, is Ursula here?" Jesse inquired.

"Ah, yes," Jarel glanced towards the basement door and then added, "Ursula hasn’t been here for days. Do you have the key to her apothecary?"

"She hasn’t been here for days?"

"It’s been about three or four days…"

"Did she ever not come to the basement for such a long time before?"

"Maybe, I can’t quite remember…But now that you mention it, hmm, it is indeed unusual for her to stay away from the basement for so long."

"Did she mention where she was going?"

"No, she has been quiet during this time."

"Didn’t you ask her?"

"Ha, you all are always busy with this and that, how can I ask? If even you don’t know what’s wrong with Ursula, how could she tell me?"

Hearing Jarel’s words, Jesse’s face darkened.

He rushed to the basement, placed the Essence of Undeath on the bookshelf in Jalane’s small room, and hurried out to find Ursula, only to be met by a Felhound right in front of him.

Basadre stared at him motionless for a long time, his mind filled with thoughts of Ursula. Suddenly, he shivered at the sight of this demon.

But seeing that the Felhound stayed behind, he felt relieved.

This was enough to show that Ursula… at least she was still alive.

Back at the tavern entrance, he asked Jarel for Ursula’s address and immediately hurried towards the trading district. By the time he reached the alley where Ursula lived, it was already evening. There were not many people in the alley. Jesse glanced up at the dark blue sky with faint clouds. After coming back from Deadwind Pass, he even felt a bit scared that the morning might never come again.

He didn’t know why he connected this place with the valley near Karazhan, maybe because…

He detected a faint scent of shadow.

Could it be because of Ursula?

Was she secretly making some shadow-related potions?

Or had he stayed too long at Karazhan, and now he was having illusions?

In any case, he cautiously used his Detect Demon ability to scan ahead, but he didn’t see anything.

Ursula lived in a three-story building. Jesse walked in through the front door, climbed the stairs, and smelled an unpleasant musty smell.

This alley existed before the Orc War. Most of the buildings in the trading district were destroyed or inhabited by Orcs and Ogres during the war. The remaining houses were in poor condition after the war. Therefore, even in the trading district, the rent for these houses was not high. Perhaps Ursula saw this as an advantage.

Ursula lived on the top floor. Jesse climbed up the stairs and suddenly met someone face to face. Jesse looked up and found out that it was an elf.

Wait, it’s a half-elf, not the kind with little elven ancestry like Ursula, but someone who still has many elven features.

"Good evening, sir," the half-elf casually said as he walked downstairs. Jesse couldn’t ignore the presence of this person.

He even felt like the decaying smell in the whole room… seemed to be emanating from this person.

Is this a warlock?

Ursula is a half-Elf Warlock, and she seems to be in trouble recently. Coming here, Jesse had a sense of foreboding. He couldn’t help but suspect whether this half-elf in front of him had any connection to Ursula.

He focused his attention and used Detect Demon to look at the shoulder of the half-elf in front of him, wanting to see if there was any imp following him, but what Jesse saw made his heart skip a beat.

No demons were following him, he himself was a demon!

This guy was just a shadow of a demon!

"Wait, sir." He tried to call out to him, but the half-elf had already turned the corner and walked down the stairs.

Jesse ran after him, but he couldn’t see any trace of him anymore.

Darn it.

Jesse looked around attentively and suddenly felt a shadow appearing behind him. He turned around and saw a dagger thrusting towards his heart. Jesse reached out and directly held the attacker’s wrist!

The black shadow let out a growl and in the moonlight coming through the window, Jesse saw a grotesque face resembling a goat in front of him. A pair of horns stood high on its head, its eyes emitting a dark yellow magical light, and its fur emitting a disgusting stench.

Satyr!

This is a Satyr demon that can disguise itself!

Jesse always thought Satyrs only existed in Kalimdor, twisted into hoofed demons from Night Elves. He never imagined they existed in this world too.

Of course, there were many Satyrs hidden in Karazhan, he should not have underestimated…

Jesse realized his power was almost powerless against the opponent’s fierce attack, seeing the dagger’s tip about to pierce his shoulder…

"Fereckert!"

Under the influence of Fear, the Satyr’s magic eye flickered, his movements slightly loosened, and he let out a bellow like an angry antelope, as if fighting against fear.

Jesse took the opportunity to push the opponent away, drew Azuresong Mageblade and thrust it forward. The Satyr suddenly disappeared in a cloud of black mist, evading Jesse’s attack.

This monster actually disappeared!

This wasn’t a trick of Invisibility playing with light and illusions, but truly vanishing without a trace! Jesse looked down the stairs, vigilantly scanning with Detect Demon, then looked up to the roof as the shadow leaped down from above!

He quickly ran up a few steps on the stairs to avoid the demon’s attack, then turned around and thrust his sword towards the Satyr, but the Satyr blocked it with a dagger. The Satyr was incredibly strong and easily knocked Jesse down on the stairs with just one block.

The Satyr realized that Jesse was not easy to deal with. Taking advantage of Jesse’s fall, he chanted a spell and pointed a strange black dagger towards Jesse, releasing a bit of dark shadow mist. Jesse immediately felt a piercing pain radiating from his chest, causing him to almost vomit from the intense pain.

Curse of Agony…

Overwhelmed by a sudden madness, Jesse was almost losing consciousness. He had to climb a few more steps while hearing the sound of hooves treading on the stairs behind him. Jesse quickly cast the "Shadow Shield" spell.

A black wave expanded from his palm, and the Satyr viciously stabbed at the shadow shield. The power of the shadows immediately countered his attack, sending the Satyr flying down, howling and rolling several times before crashing into the wall at the stairs’ corner.

Enduring the pain, Jesse clenched his teeth and chased after the Satyr with his sword. The Satyr, injured by the previous shadow attack, struggled to stand up and fiercely stabbed at Jesse again. However, Jesse’s persistent shadow shield once again blocked the attack, causing another explosion of shadows that pushed the Satyr against the wall. The impact shook the wall, sending wall fragments flying everywhere, even shattering the small window at the corner of the stairs. The Satyr demon shivered as he stood up, vomited blood, and Jesse quickly pierced his heart with the sword.

Removing his sword, the Satyr weakly sat down on the ground, lifting his goat-like yellow eyes to look at Jesse.

"Who are you?" he asked in a demonic voice.

Jesse didn’t answer him, watching as the Satyr’s eyes dimmed slowly. The Shadow Power on the Satyr dispersed rapidly, and he soon became as cold and eerie as a black sheep corpse.

At that moment, he felt a sharp pain in his shoulder.

The second attack by the Satyr pierced through his Shadow Shield… That’s why, despite already being hurt by the shield, he still tried to attack again, feeling confident in breaking through Jesse’s defense.

Most of the damage was blocked, but the demon’s dagger still left a small wound, which was turning slightly black from the shadow poison.

Jesse felt the wound wasn’t too serious, but considering he was about to leave for Kalimdor soon, he didn’t want to carry any injuries.

The Living Ice Crystals were not ready to be activated again, so he needed to quickly find the Shadow Protection Potion.

He hoped Ursula was at home.

Jesse had many questions about the demon, but he didn’t have time to think about them now.

He carried the demon’s body to the third floor, stood in front of the door number noted by Jarel, threw the body on the ground, sighed, and knocked on the door.

There was no response from inside.

"Ursula, Ursula, open the door, quick!" shouted Jesse. After calling out twice, the door was suddenly pulled open, and seeing the familiar figure backlit inside, Jesse finally felt relieved.
