Chapter 509
byChapter 509: Robe of the Void
Two days later, Jesse arrived at the basement at the agreed time with Zardeth.
Since he had just visited the elves’ home in the morning, Jesse arrived early. The basement was empty except for Jesse’s two servants and Ursula’s dog.
Jesse handed the reply letter back to Vereesa and told the messenger Rahm Flameheart about his plan to take on the task in Kalimdor.
In the letter, he clearly mentioned that his companions might be difficult for others to accept. He couldn’t talk about succubus or demons openly in a letter that other elves might see, but since Vereesa had hinted about warlocks before, she should understand what he was talking about.
Earlier, Rahm Flameheart had told Jesse that Vereesa might not be able to come due to interference from the Sunstrider royal family. He didn’t think much about it then, just felt that the elves in Quel’Thalas had enough trouble.
But now, sitting in the chilly basement corner, Jesse couldn’t help but think about Vereesa’s possible reaction.
Before long, Jalane arrived at the basement with a robe, followed by others, and Zardeth came downstairs carrying a black container.
Is this the container holding the Essence of Fire?
Jalane spread the robe on the table. Jesse gently touched the robe, feeling the care she put into making it. After wearing robes of different prices, Jesse couldn’t pinpoint specific differences, but he could sense varying qualities.
With special dye that gives some magic power, the whole clothing turned into a not very pleasing grey-purple color. However, Jesse knew this was because the clothing was too focused on magic resistance and adaptability to shadow powers, so appearance was not a priority.
This robe was made of pretty good quality silk and spider silk, not only Jesse could tell, but Erlan kept staring at the robe, his eyes widening.
"I say, Erlan, this robe is made of spider silk…Where did you get the spider silk from?"
"Northrend," Jalane said.
"Spider silk from Northrend." Erlan nodded, saying, "No wonder, I’ve heard that to get truly good quality spider silk, one needs to venture into the ancient ruins in Northrend that have been around for who knows how many thousands of years…"
"You sure know a lot, Mr. Drudgemoor," Jalane smiled and said.
"Well, of course," Erlan said.
"Did you use the Felcloth we found before, Jalane?" Surena asked.
"Of course," Jalane said. "I sewed the Felcloth into it according to the instructions translated by Jesse…These materials from the Twisting Nether, taken from demons, reinforce its adaptability and resilience to magic, and most importantly, its ability to contain runic powers."
"Next, we will enchant the clothes with Demonic Runes," Zardeth said.
"Yes."
Jalane and Zardeth placed small bottles of Essence of Undeath and Essence of Fire, as well as black jars, next to them. Jesse and Erlan laid out demon skins with corresponding runes on the table, noticing that the clothes had already been sewn by Jalane with Mageweave that matched the runic patterns exactly, along with a series of recipes specifying the Demonic incantations that activate the Mageweave.
Following Saenor’s instructions, now all that’s left is to complete the ritual of transferring power!
Jalane said, "Jesse, you mentioned that your imp servant, Mr. Saenor, knows how to perform the ritual to transfer this type of power. While I have some knowledge in this area, I lack confidence because I’ve only transferred very weak runic powers before. I’m not sure about handling the powerful runes of the Doomguard. So, in order to ensure success, let’s have your imp do it."
"Don’t be so polite, Miss Jalane Ayrole!" Saenor exclaimed excitedly. "I am more than willing to assist!"
"Are you sure, Saenor?" Jesse asked.
"Absolutely!" Saenor replied. "Doomguard… psh! Not such rare dim-witted demons! But I will need two bottles of lesser Mana Potion poured into a bowl placed beside me. Also, make sure Basadre stays away from this bowl, Mrs. Ursula!"
"No problem."
Ursula poured the Mana Potion into a bowl and placed it on the table. Saenor hopped up and sniffed the bowl, nodding in satisfaction. It seemed like it had become the core of The Slaughtered Lamb.
"Having the ability to make these robes will make us stand out among many warlock groups, Mr. Saenor!" Zardeth’s imp servant, Ziggy, happily said. "Then our master can show off in front of those darn dwarves, they could never do such a thing!"
"Quiet down, Ziggy," Zardeth said. "Let Saenor finish its work!"
Saenor said, "That’s right, quiet down… Now, open the bottle containing the Essence of the Elements."
Ursula, wearing thick gloves, opened two containers. When the black jar was opened, Jesse felt a rush of heat burst out, making the whole room feel warmer.
Zardeth glanced sensitively at the nearby fire pit, even a bit worried that the Essence of Fire might ignite it.
Saenor raised both hands and began chanting a very long and difficult spell. Jesse noticed that the bottles containing the two essences started to tremble.
It guided the fire and death elements into the demon skin to reawaken it, while also infusing the runes on the clothes. The runes on both sides began to glow simultaneously, linked by elemental power…
Saenor stared intently at the elemental energy on the clothes, other warlocks watching nervously. Jesse wasn’t sure about the others, but was a little concerned that the power of the Essence of Fire might damage the clothes.
The imp’s face didn’t show if he was nervous, struggling, or scared, but he looked very excited. Tears like lava dripped from his eyes, and his voice chanting spells went from loud to soft. By now, most of the Mana Potion in the bowl had evaporated.
Ursula quietly asked Jesse, "Should I go get more Mana Potion?"
"Right now!" Saenor shouted in a common language, "Witness my power!"
The Demonic Rune suddenly burned in a purple-green flame and turned to ashes. Then, the runes on the robe lit up, making Jalane take two steps back in surprise.
The Essence of Undeath bottle was empty, green smoke emerged from the black jar, and the bowl with Mana Potion burst into chaotic green flames, quickly shattering into pieces. The imp screamed and fell to the ground, even the flames above his head extinguished.
Jesse lifted him up and asked, "What’s wrong with him? Saenor!"
"He’s asleep, my master," Molofeel said, looking at Jesse with disdain.
"Um… okay," Jesse said after succubus spoke, feeling strange that everyone was staring at him for being concerned about an imp servant.
But hearing succubus confirm the imp was still alive, Ursula breathed a sigh of relief.
"Luckily nothing bad happened, put on this robe and try it on, Jesse," said Jalane.
Jesse nodded, draped the robe over himself, and as he tightened it, the runes that had dimmed down before… suddenly glowed again, emitting magical light from the neckline and cuffs, but quickly dimmed down again.
This robe, just from its appearance, looked like a well-made but ordinary robe that didn’t pay much attention to looks, the Demonic Runes were not noticeable when not glowing, after all, the runes were sewn inside.
The major downside is that it might be a bit hot to wear in summer.
"This precious robe… if it accidentally got torn, it would be really disastrous," Jesse said.
"This might be the toughest robe against cuts that I have ever seen, Jesse," Jalane said. "Do you know how much effort it took me to cut through that Felcloth? Not to mention it has been enchanted several times, definitely not something cheap like what Larson or Duncan offer for a few gold coins. But don’t keep pushing its limits, Jesse…"
"I know," Jesse nodded and said, "Thank you, Jalane, and thanks to everyone for the help."
"You deserve this, Jesse," Zardeth said. "This robe doesn’t have a special name, but the Orcs in the recipe repeatedly emphasize that this clothing made in this way has power from the void, so let’s just call it – Robe of the Void."
Robe of the Void… Jesse thought, so this is the Robe of the Void?
