Chapter Index

Zhou Chao rushed Zhang Xiaoyan onto the bed. Just as he was about to move, he heard an urgent knock on the door. “Girl! Xiaoyan, Xiaoyan, is Xiaoyan in there?”

The two people on the bed looked at each other. When Zhou Chao heard his father’s voice, he jumped up in fright, pulled his pants on, jumped out of the window, and hid on the balcony outside.

Zhang Xiaoyan sat up and responded, “Dad, is there something wrong?”

”Someone from the Wang family next door came and said that the eldest brother beat his son and they were looking for someone to talk to. Have you seen the eldest brother? I want to ask what happened.” Old Man Zhou had a worried look on his face, not knowing what had happened.

When Zhou Chao heard this, he immediately got angry. He stretched his neck to look downstairs and saw Wang Zhuzi and his father wandering around in the yard. Wang Zhuzi had gauze wrapped around his head and was cursing.

He immediately let out a loud “Fuck!” and slipped from the balcony into the living room. “They dared to come and seek justice. I was just about to teach them a lesson!”

When Old Man Zhou saw him sneaking in from the balcony, he was stunned at first, then he was shocked by his words and asked hurriedly. Zhou Chao made a “Pooh” sound and rushed downstairs while talking about what happened before. When Old Man Zhou heard it, he also got angry. The two of them went downstairs, picked up a stick from the corner of the wall and rushed out.

Zhang Xiaoyan found some clothes to put on and looked out the window. She saw the four men quarreling and then fighting. After a while, the father and son from the Wang family were kicked out of the yard by the father and son from the Zhou family and ran away in shame.

After sending the others away, Old Man Zhou hurried upstairs and saw Zhang Xiaoyan sitting in the living room, head bowed and silent. His heart tightened, and he awkwardly stepped forward to comfort her, “Girl, I’m sorry for making you feel wronged…”

Zhang Xiaoyan threw herself into his arms, her eyes red as she burst into tears, “Dad…”

Her crying made Old Man Zhou at a loss. He hugged her and patted her back, comforting her, “Don’t be afraid, that bastard won’t dare to bully you again…”

As he spoke, he wiped the tears from her face, feeling choked up by her crying. Zhang Xiaoyan sobbed softly, then raised her little face and looked at him with tears in her eyes, “Dad, I’m still scared. I don’t want to stay here now. I want to go back to the city and stay for a few days…”

Father Zhou was stunned. “You want to go back to the city?”

”Well, I haven’t been home for a year. I want to go back and see my parents. Dad, please go with me…” She said, holding his arm and shaking it, “My parents also want to meet you, their in-law…”

Old Man Zhou felt that he was really worried about letting her go back so far alone. Now that Si Nian was not around, he really should go and see her parents. After thinking about it, he agreed.

Seeing him nod in agreement, Zhang Xiaoyan was delighted and kissed him hard on the cheek, “Dad, thank you! Then I’ll call them and ask them to book me a ticket.”

Old Man Zhou’s face turned red, but seeing his daughter-in-law so happy, he was in a good mood. He had never been to the capital in his life, so it would be good to see the world.

Zhou Chao was smoking silently on the side, feeling a little jealous after listening to it. He wanted to ask her why she didn’t let him accompany her, but apart from the courage he had when he was passionate, he couldn’t say those words now that he had calmed down.

Seeing that he looked lonely, Zhang Xiaoyan smiled and said, “Brother Chao, I will take all of you to the city to play during the next slack season…” When Zhou Chao heard this, a smile immediately appeared on his face and he no longer felt lost.

A few days later, Zhang Xiaoyan and Lao Zhou boarded a bus to the city. There was an airport in the city, but Zhang Xiaoyan deliberately asked her parents to book train tickets and bought tickets for an entire soft sleeper compartment. The journey from this 18th-tier city to the capital took 24 hours. During this long time, she felt that there was a good chance that something would happen between her and her father-in-law.

Old Man Zhou didn’t know what she was planning, and he got into the bus with her with a feeling of nervousness and excitement. Except for a trip to a small town when he was young, he had been busy in the mountains all his life, so he was a little uneasy.

After a several-hour bus ride to the city train station and another hour of waiting in the waiting room, the two finally boarded the train, carrying their belongings. Zhang Xiaoyan brought a small suitcase filled with clothes, while Old Man Zhou carried two bags of food. They squeezed onto the train with the crowd, his emotions agitated until the train began moving, when he finally calmed down.

”Xiao Yan, are there only two of us in this room?” Old Man Zhou sat opposite her and noticed that there were two empty seats above. Looking at the crowded waiting room, he thought the bus could be filled up.

”Yeah.” She smiled as she had asked her parents to book the tickets for the two beds. She was not used to sleeping in the same space with strangers, and it would also interfere with her little plan.

Zhang Xiaoyan closed the door to the small private room, found a set of clothes in her suitcase, and began to undress. She had just squeezed into the bus with the others and was covered in sweat, which made her feel sticky and uncomfortable. Seeing her undressing in front of him, Old Man Zhou quickly turned his eyes away and looked out the window. He heard the sound of gargling in his ears and suddenly felt a little hot.

”Dad, your clothes are all wet with sweat. You might catch a cold with the air conditioner on in the train. Take them off and change into something else…” Zhang Xiaoyan changed into a black V-neck hip-hugging short dress. The slim dress wrapped her buttocks, making them look round and perky. Her S-shaped body line was enough to make any man’s nose bleed.
