Chapter 94: The Essence of Life
“Is this the path of fortune you spoke of, friend in the Dao? Truly profound. To manipulate fate through fortune – if one pursued this path to its peak, could they not alter destiny itself?”
This time, the Heavenly Lord truly began to believe Zuo Meng cultivated the path of fortune. Such methods allowing Zuo Meng to alter others’ luck were utterly beyond the Heavenly Lord’s capabilities – their Daos differed, touching separate domains. The Heavenly Lord had his own refined rules, confident in his mastery of heavenly principles.
Yet he never imagined the man before him wasn’t some fortune specialist, but a genuine Creator who dabbled in nearly all worldly rules. While Zuo Meng’s expertise in fortune stood out, he possessed basic understanding of every principle.
“Merely minor tricks with limitations. I can’t perceive the fortune of the Three Lords – yourself, Earthly Lord, or Human Respect.”
Zuo Meng had immediately tested these rules upon mastering them. He’d tried viewing Junior Sister Zuo Qiu’s fortune and altering it, but failed completely. Those stronger than her like Human Respect remained beyond his influence. Ultimately, this wasn’t his world – here, he remained an ordinary cultivator.
“What did you mean earlier about the heavens awakening?”
After prolonged discussion, Zuo Meng finally circled back. This answer determined his future path. If his suspicions proved true, the real world faced peril. He refused to be harvested like wheat – the burden of knowledge. Sometimes he envied carefree martial artists with their beef and wine, blissfully awaiting collective doom when heaven collapsed.
“I summoned you precisely for this.”
The Heavenly Lord recalled their meeting’s true purpose. Compared to impending catastrophe, Zuo Meng’s fortune arts seemed trivial.
“Words fail here. Observe through spiritual sense.”
Closing his eyes, the Heavenly Lord flicked his whisk. Intricate runic chains materialized across the floating island, radiating star-shaped patterns from their seated position. As runes shimmered and converged, the ground trembled until a dark doorway appeared.
Zuo Meng’s physical eyes saw only void. Remembering the instruction, he closed them and extended his consciousness – then froze.
His spiritual vision revealed chaos – inverted skies, twisted landscapes swirling like abstract paintings. At the vortex’s heart lay a titanic figure dwarfing their existence to insignificance…
A Creator.
No explanation needed. The colossus’ identity struck Zuo Meng instantly.
“You comprehend now?” The Heavenly Lord’s smile turned bitter.
“This is your so-called ‘heaven’?!”
Suddenly the Three Lords’ cooperation made sense. No wonder the Heavenly Lord welcomed new extraordinary beings – their world teetered on collapse. When this Creator awoke to harvest, all would perish. This wasn’t secret-sharing but recruiting reinforcements.
More Transcendents meant better odds for the Heavenly Lord. He’d convert all humanity given the chance, though true Transcendence required rule comprehension, not mere power. Past eras saw fantasy martial artists, but without grasping rules, they remained mortal ants beneath heaven’s laws.
A nuclear bomb’s fury depended on permitted rules. In space, it’d barely rival a star. Ban fusion or fire, and it becomes useless. To challenge a Creator, rule mastery proved essential.
Yet ninety-seven percent of this world’s rules already belonged to the slumbering Creator, leaving only Three Lords’ domains. Zuo Meng’s existence as exception explained the Heavenly Lord’s immediate interest.
“We’ve never directly observed it – only inferred through rule fluctuations. What else but heaven?”
Zuo Meng frowned. “Never observed? But it’s clearly…”
Then he understood. The Three Lords’ miserable state stemmed from their inferior essence. They sensed heaven’s existence but couldn’t perceive its form.
As fellow Creator, Zuo Meng shared its existential tier. His Dream World origins enabled this vision. Memories surfaced of his pre-awakening dreams – mindless rule consumption until consciousness emerged.
If this being’s similar…
Zuo Meng thanked his Dream World foundation and rejecting Human Respect’s path. Centuries more on that road would’ve left him helpless before the awakening.
“It still dreams. If I reinforce that illusion and trigger self-doubt, I could usurp its authority. Merge Dream World with reality…” He now doubted his world’s reality.
Excitement surged. Other Creators might exist in the void, but this one he must consume. Failure meant becoming another’s plaything – life and death at their whim.
