Chapter 17: Soul-Severing Spirit Vine

Feng Xingyao suddenly coughed. Blood at the corner of his lips kept increasing, making him look like a frail, sickly beauty. He propped himself up with his hand on the ground, slowly straightening his upper body. His collar was slightly open, revealing strikingly snow-white skin. His gaze fell on her face.

He didn’t bother beating around the bush. With a light laugh, he said, “In the forest where we met, I sensed the aura of the Blood-Devouring Pearl.”

“You knew about it all along?”

Thinking she was close to the edge of anger, Feng Xingyao shook his head. “No. I only sensed it today after recovering some of my strength.”

Shen Yan’s eyebrows relaxed a little. She pressed on, “Where exactly?”

Feng Xingyao sneered, “That’s a different deal.”

Shen Yan: “…”

She really wanted to punch him and kick him out of the Extraordinary Ability Space. But to break the sealing poison on her Primal Spirit Bone, she needed his help.

She held back.

Seeing her look both annoyed and helpless, Feng Xingyao suddenly felt amused. A faint smile appeared on his lips. “Help me up, and I’ll tell you.”

Shen Yan took a deep breath. Hold it in again. Then she bent down, grabbed his arm, and quickly helped him back onto the soft couch.

Feng Xingyao curled a finger to wipe the blood from his lip. His pale lips parted slightly. “Where there is Soul-Severing Spirit Vine, that’s where the Blood-Devouring Pearl is located.”

“Soul-Severing Spirit Vine?” Shen Yan had seen this name in a book not long ago.

The Soul-Severing Spirit Vine was a type of Spirit Plant.

In this world, there was also a profession called Spiritual Botanist. These people were born with a high natural affinity for Spirit Plants. They formed contracts with Spirit Plants to use them for battle, support, or even cultivation for profit.

There were also extremely fierce Spirit Plants, ones that even some Spiritual Beasts could not contend with. The Soul-Severing Spirit Vine was one of the fiercest representatives.

Shen Yan felt her chances of seizing the Blood-Devouring Pearl alone were not great. But she would not give up.

Feng Xingyao suddenly sensed something and reminded her, “They are arguing outside because of you.”

Shen Yan quickly snapped back to attention. She glanced at Feng Xingyao and then left the Extraordinary Ability Space.

When she returned to the secluded corner on the second floor of the Library Pavilion, she could clearly hear noisy sounds coming from not far away.

“Shen Yan must have sneaked to the third floor!”

“She’s not on the first floor, not on the second floor, and no one saw her leave. She must have broken into the third floor!”

“But isn’t there a Barrier on the third floor? How could the Second Young Miss possibly get inside?”

“Ha, who knows. I just searched the entire first and second floors of the Library Pavilion and didn’t see her. She definitely went to the third floor! Manager Yu, when you catch her later, you must report this to the head of the family and have him punish her severely!”

Over a dozen disciples were gathered at a corner of the Library Pavilion, discussing animatedly. The middle-aged man who had come after hearing the news—Manager Yu, who guarded the Library Pavilion’s entrance—had an inscrutable expression. He asked, “Have you checked the first and second floors? There’s no sign of the Second Young Miss?”

A female disciple confirmed firmly, “None! I just checked twice.”

Manager Yu’s expression changed slightly. If Shen Yan had really entered the third floor of the Library Pavilion, it would be a major issue, because the third floor was equivalent to the family’s Forbidden Area.

If Shen Yan entered the third floor, not only would she be punished, but he would also be implicated. It was possible his position as manager would be stripped away.

Manager Yu’s face instantly turned cold, and his dislike for Shen Yan grew deeper.

“If she really went in, I will not let her off!”

Manager Yu knew there were several Shen Family experts guarding the Library Pavilion in secret. If he wanted to enter and search, he had to get permission from those Shen Family experts. Just as he was about to take action, a cold female voice suddenly came from behind him.

“What’s going on here?”

Hearing this, Manager Yu and the others instinctively turned around. They saw Shen Yan standing not far away, holding a Cultivation Techniques and Battle Skills manual in her hand. It seemed she had come to investigate after hearing the commotion.

The faces of the disciples who had reported Shen Yan changed dramatically. They pointed at her in shock. “How is that possible? Shen Yan, how can you be here?!”

Shen Yan’s expression was cold. “If I’m not here, where should I be?”

Manager Yu was also startled.

He let out a deep sigh of relief. “So it was just a misunderstanding.”

This made the over ten accusing disciples stiffen. They stared hard at Shen Yan, convinced she must have gone to the Library Pavilion’s third floor just moments before.

Shen Yan sneered. “What misunderstanding? Are there no rules in the Library Pavilion? Manager Yu, are you just going to let this many people gather and make a racket here? Won’t you manage it? If this gets out, whose face will be lost?”

Hearing this, Manager Yu stared at her in surprise, then his eyes darkened briefly.

After this waste Shen Yan regained her senses, how did she become so clever? And so sharp-tongued!

Manager Yu immediately put on a stern face. He turned to look at the dozen or so troublemaking disciples and said, “Because you have gathered and caused a disturbance in the Library Pavilion, your study time here is revoked! Furthermore, you may not set foot in the Library Pavilion for a month!”

The faces of those dozen disciples changed. They immediately begged for mercy. “Manager Yu, we really weren’t trying to cause trouble!”

“Shen Yan, what trick did you pull?! Tell us now!” one disciple asked with an ugly expression, his voice shrill.

Shen Yan simply replied calmly, “I like to crouch in a corner when I read.”

This instantly broke the composure of those dozen disciples.

Crouch in a corner to read?

Are you freaking crazy?!

They were so angry they were about to start cursing.

Under Manager Yu’s warning glare, they could only bear the grievance in silence.

Soon, they were driven out of the Library Pavilion.

Shen Yan stayed inside because she needed to learn some of this world’s Cultivation Techniques and Battle Skills for self-defense.

‘Flowing Star Fire Fist’ was the first Cultivation Techniques and Battle Skills she chose.

Shen Yan immersed herself in studying. Meanwhile, the several experts secretly guarding the Library Pavilion grew suspicious of Shen Yan. During the uproar, they hadn’t detected her presence either.

Either they had overlooked her, or there was something wrong with Shen Yan.

At this moment, inside the Extraordinary Ability Space, Feng Xingyao could no longer hold on. He violently spat out a mouthful of dark blood. A layer of frost actually formed on his eyebrows. His wounds were covered by a bloody glow, and as it surged, the wounds actually began to heal gradually!

Jiuzhuan quickly transformed into his human form and came to Feng Xingyao’s side.

Jiuzhuan’s small face was scrunched up in worry. He asked nervously, “Honored… How are you now?”

Feng Xingyao didn’t want to deal with him.

Jiuzhuan said urgently, “I’ll go call the master in!”

“Calling her in won’t help.”

Jiuzhuan retorted, “The master can help! She could even feed you the potion!”

Feng Xingyao’s originally weary face instantly turned several shades colder at these words. His tone held an indescribable chill. “What did you say?”

Jiuzhuan trembled, frightened by his expression. He quickly covered his eyes and gave a shaky nod.

Seeing this, Feng Xingyao lowered his eyelids, hiding the emotions rising in his eyes. Had his guard really fallen this low?
