Chapter 8: A Servant Bullying the Master

Accompanied by Shen Tianhao’s utmost care, Shen Yan stepped into the flat, bluestone-paved West Jade Court. She walked through a garden full of bright colors and reached the end of the courtyard.

Shen Yan looked up and saw a tall, multi-eaved pavilion with upturned corners, nestled among flowering trees swaying in the wind.

This was the West Jade Court where the original owner had lived.

Although the original owner was a disgrace to the Shen Family and even the entire Nangxiao Kingdom, because she had her father, Shen Tianhao, as her backer, her living conditions were not that bad. However, she lacked cultivation resources. And when Shen Tianhao was not around, almost everyone in the Shen Family treated her poorly. Many even bullied her in secret.

“Yan’er, the Physician will be here soon.”

Shen Tianhao carefully supported her. Looking at her injuries and dried bloodstains, his eyes couldn’t help but sting.

Shen Yan withdrew her gaze and looked at Shen Tianhao. She asked quite seriously, “Father, if one day I killed Shen Xue, what would you think of me?”

Hearing this, Shen Tianhao’s heart shook.

Immediately, Shen Tianhao said hatefully, “Then she would have gotten what she deserved!”

“Yan’er, I’m sorry. Father isn’t avenging you because right now, Xue… Shen Xue is under the protection of your Grandfather and the Elders. Even everyone in the Shen Family…”

As Shen Tianhao spoke, he realized something, and his expression froze. He was suddenly struck by how foolish he had been before, not noticing that Shen Xue was actually a two-faced person who was extremely good at winning people’s hearts.

If Shen Xue had held a grudge against Yan’er from the start, then…

Shen Tianhao looked at her anxiously. “Yan’er, has she been bullying you all these years?”

“Yes.” Shen Yan did not deny it because, in the original owner’s memories, Shen Xue was directly or indirectly responsible for the original owner’s injuries and her worsening reputation.

Upon hearing this, Shen Tianhao suddenly clenched his fists, veins bulging on his neck. It seemed he finally couldn’t bear it anymore. As he turned around to confront Shen Xue—

His sleeve was pulled.

Shen Tianhao looked back and saw Yan’er’s unusually calm face.

Shen Yan said lightly, “Father, revenge is not urgent.”

“But…” Tears welled up in Shen Tianhao’s eyes. In the end, he raised his strong arms and hugged Shen Yan tightly. Suppressing his emotions, he said, “Father is not a good father. I failed to take care of you in time. I’m sorry. I can’t even avenge you.”

Shen Yan’s body stiffened, feeling somewhat uncomfortable. It had been a long time since someone held her so tightly.

Actually, Shen Tianhao had done quite well as a father.

In this ‘cannibalistic’ family, although the original owner was foolish, she received the necessary care and treatment, all because Shen Tianhao was there.

As for the biological mother of the original owner and her younger brother Shen Huai, she had never appeared.

It was said that on a stormy day about fourteen or fifteen years ago, the genius Summoner Shen Tianhao, who had been away from home for many years, suddenly returned to the Shen Family, severely injured and barely holding on. He was carrying a pair of twins, a boy and a girl.

He only announced to the outside that these twins were his children.

He never mentioned a word about the twins’ biological mother.

To this day, that mysterious biological mother remained a forbidden topic within the Shen Family.

Even before her younger brother Shen Huai left home to study at the Western Regions Academy, he specifically asked Shen Tianhao about it. Shen Tianhao became furious, punishing Shen Huai within the family and making him kneel in the Shen Family’s Ancestral Hall for three full days and nights.

Thinking of this, Shen Yan slowly said, “Father, I want to cultivate. Whether it’s Shen Xue or Nangong Yu, I want to deal with them myself myself.”

These words made Shen Tianhao freeze.

“Yan’er, you…”

Shen Yan quickly explained, “On my way back, I met a mysterious and powerful old eccentric. He said with great mystery that I am capable of cultivating Spiritual Energy, as long as I can find the Blood-Devouring Pearl.”

Shen Tianhao frowned tightly, full of surprise and doubt.

Seeing him like this, Shen Yan suddenly thought of something. As her gaze shifted, she couldn’t help but probe, “That old man also said my Primal Spirit Bone was sealed by a strange poison…”

These words caused Shen Tianhao’s expression to change drastically.

“How could…” He stared at Shen Yan with disbelief. He gripped her shoulders tightly, his lips trembling violently. He tried to speak several times but stopped.

Shen Yan frowned and asked, “Father, what’s wrong?”

Shen Tianhao looked lost and dejected, as if remembering some painful memory. With tears streaming down his face, he murmured, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry Yan’er. It’s all Father’s fault!”

Seeing this, Shen Yan’s eyes flickered. She could now be sure of two things: Shen Fu did not know that her Primal Spirit Bone was sealed by poison, but… Shen Fu most likely knew who had sealed her Primal Spirit Bone.

Just then, the servant arrived with the Physician.

“Young Master, Physician Huang is here.”

Hearing this, Shen Tianhao quickly adjusted his emotions.

Without delay, he had Shen Yan enter the room, and then asked Physician Huang to examine her internal and external injuries.

Physician Huang was a woman, so she could properly check Shen Yan’s injuries all over her body.

Shen Tianhao and the servant exited the room.

Just as a clear-featured maid named Lingyuan was about to help Shen Yan remove her bloodstained clothes, Shen Yan stopped her. “Wait a moment.”

Lingyuan was slightly stunned. Then, a hint of contempt flashed in her eyes.

“Wait? What for!” She did not know Shen Yan had regained her senses, so she acted as she always had – reaching out roughly to grab and pull at Shen Yan’s clothes.

As soon as she reached out, her wrist was gripped tightly by a hand, almost crushing her bones.

“Ah! Ouch, ouch, ouch!” Lingyuan let out a sharp cry of pain.

Seeing this, Physician Huang was startled. As she was about to step forward to check the situation, Shen Yan gave her a brief, cool look.

That one glance felt like an overwhelming frost sweeping over, making Physician Huang freeze on the spot, a sliver of fear arising in her heart.

Shen Yan’s cold voice sounded.

“I said, wait a moment.”

With that, she released Lingyuan’s wrist.

But Lingyuan, in pain and seeming to lose her reason, angrily raised her hand as before to slap Shen Yan.

“You idiot actually dared to hurt me!”

Before Lingyuan’s hand could touch Shen Yan’s face, a dull, heavy sound was heard.

Thud—

Lingyuan was suddenly kicked flying and slammed hard into the dressing table. In an instant, a cacophony of ‘clatter-clatter’ sounds rang out. The broken bronze mirror cut Lingyuan.

“Ahhhh!” Lingyuan felt a sharp pain in her lower back. Upon touching it and finding a hand covered in blood, she screamed in terror.

Outside the room, Shen Tianhao and the guards heard this, their expressions changing.

Shen Tianhao almost rushed into Shen Yan’s private chambers, but he restrained himself. Maintaining the last shred of rationality, he called out, “Yan’er, what happened in there?”

Shen Yan indifferently swept a glance at the still panicked Lingyuan and calmly replied, “It’s nothing. A little mouse was just bumping around.”
